The lines are quite blurred these days between what belongs in the Halo 4 forum and what goes in the Matchmaking forum. In the “WELCOME TO THE MATCHMAKING FORUM!” sticky, it’s laid out relatively clearly what that forum is for, but the equivalent in the Halo 4 forum is less helpful…and seems to be written before the release date of the game.
I had a thread about spawn invincibility with regard to Lightning CTF moved from the Halo 4 forum to Matchmaking; I have no problem with that itself, but I thought of spawn invincibility as a part of the game’s architecture/functionality and therefore a Halo 4 topic than a matchmaking issue. My specifying the one gametype probably rightfully gained it the change, but if it had been about spawn invincibility in any/all gametypes in general, would that qualify as a matchmaking issue still? It’s something that has a bearing on Forge and Custom Games as well. I don’t know which side of the fence that falls on.
I’m not complaining or questioning the decision, I just find it difficult to tell what goes where sometimes. I know that talking about Action Sack as a playlist belongs on Matchmaking; that’s pretty easy. Having a question about how to best get through the Mantis battle in Composer is obviously a Halo 4 topic. Not every thing is quite that cut-and-dry though and the Halo 4 forum has no list of what belongs there point-by-point. Frankly, according to Matchmaking’s “Welcome To…” guidelines, six threads -Yoinking!- about the DMR (Sandbox balancing), five “where has competitive Halo gone?” posts (TrueSkill/Competitive gaming) and three “I quit any JiP match” topics (Join in progress) per hour don’t belong in the Halo 4 section either, but they continue to show up and continue to stay.
Again, I don’t mean to complain, I’m just confused because we have a bit of a blurry line on some things. The poor admins and monitors have their work cut out for them with a downpour of less-than-gracious posters and mere water pails to try and keep this whole ship afloat. I think Matchmaking should be renamed Halo 4 Multiplayer and Halo 4 should get Campaign added onto the end of its name. I don’t know who makes those decisions, but it would cut down on a lot of confusion and I could get a discussion about Halo 4’s story or campaign going without getting buried under “ordnance dropz suk” threads.
