Forum Confusion

I have been a member of this site for a while now, but I have only just recently started using the forums to talk to other members of the community.

I have a few questions:

  1. Why is it so hard to tell when a post I have posted in has new replies? Sometimes I will see it with the “+” and sometimes I wont. When I see the “+” I check and sometimes I see no new messages.

Suggestion: Is there a way to post the name of the last poster on the forum list?
For example:

TOPIC TITLE_______________________________________________POSTED BY USER
last post by user

  1. My next question is about the forum ranks. Why am I an Iron, but I haven’t ever really used these forums before. What makes me higher than some users I see that have Bronze? What are the requirements for ranking up? And what is with those badges some users have?

I apologize if these are dumb questions, but I figured this would be the place to ask.

Thanks!

  1. Just ignore the + on threads. It says new posts, but it’s almost always there. There really should be an option for that, though. There’s an option to see the author of the thread, but not the last poster. Not sure the reasoning behind that.

  2. Iron is actually lower than Bronze. You rank up by posting. The higher the rank, the more posts you have. This thread explains everything about the rankings.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

I have issues with the + icons too. They don’t seem to function correctly at all.

I’m the most recent poster in the 2 thread below this but they both show new replies (as will this one <- nope this one is staying ‘read’ like its supposed to :S)

This used to be a thing but it’s not anymore for whatever reason. However, you can see the last TIME a person posted by changing a profile setting. Click on “My Profile” at the top right and then under “Options” make sure Show Last Post is set to “Show” then refresh your browser and you should be able to see when someone last posted…just not who that someone was.

It just doesn’t make sense. You would think that Microsoft and 343i could create a flawless forums experience for Halo. Bungie had a very well working forum, and now that it was handed over… I feel as though it does not function as well as it should.

@SensoryFour34: Thanks for the link. This answers every question I had regarding ranks!

^Exactly what she said, OP^

Bungie’s website is a product of 10+ years of experience and it was built from the ground up. The Waypoint forums are built off of YAF which has some restrictions to it.
