Didn’t matter that I made that mistake after update xbox restarted…(would have lost it either way)

Did you try making periodic saves to your forge map? Either way, that sucks.
Shouldn’t they give like 30-60 minutes notice

Some people become so engrossed in Forging that they might forget to save. Or they haven’t made it a habit that’s as natural as breathing. I know I’d likely forget to save when I’m forging.

To be fair, forge always used to be capable of running offline. Now with this ridiculous “always online” policy Xbox had from the start it’s difficult to work around it. Everyone’s used to forging for an hour, shutting the tv off, coming back later and still expecting the game to be running. Myself included.
Pro tip : use “Ctrl + s”

That doesn’t excuse the fact that by now pretty much everyone knows that forge is online only and that saving your progress every so often is crucial. I will often quick save after just a few minutes of work to make sure I don’t lose any progress if something were to happen.
I hope this doesn’t mean you have to be online to play forge on pc! I’m really looking forward to playing it on my way back from vacation.

That’s odd. I’ve never been promoted to update while I was already playing. Updates are only supposed to prompt on a restart.
ever since grade school starting with the old apple IIe i’ve been a save every 10 to 15 minutes psycho. when i messed around in the older forges i’d be saving more often then making progress.
When I got back.
I had the base of the temple and some of the ground.
No aesthetic, none of the functionality.

Exactly this. IF you are working on something save, save, save, save. It does wonders when you are coding.
