It is to hard an time wasting to make maps on halo anymore. And to complicated to find things on like reach or halo MCC it was very simple but now I’m completely lost!
Well I would simply say to look around on tutorials on how to handle the new forge. I can agree that it has some difficulty for those who don’t really dive into map creation in Halo, but to those who take the time to learn it they will definitely not regret it. As after I started using Halo 5’s forge, and then trying to compare it to everything else we had in the past? Oh boy I refuse to use anything in Forge prior to Halo 5, only because everything that Halo 5’s forge offers completely destroys the older versions.
Though for someone like you who is finding it to be over complicated I can agree with you that it’s a lot to take in at first. I have heard many people say the same thing as you in this case. Just keep on exploring the forge features, and after you learn them you will come to enjoy it. Well I hope you will enjoy it at least.
I thought the same thing when Halo 5’s Forge came out, but almost every change except for like 1 or 2 things is a HUGE improvement. The controls are different and difficult to get use to at first compared to previous forge controls, but my god are they so much better once you get use to them! I can’t even forge in the older Halo’s anymore because it just feels so clunky and hard to use lol.
What I would recommend is don’t try to build an actual map right now. Take a week or two just to mess around in forge a bit. Build some structures, change the colors and textures around, learn where all the objects are, and sooner or later the controls will become second nature to you. Once you get that part down, maybe start using some of the structures you built while training, or build new ones and start making a real map that can be played on. If you want to include scripting for something like a door or elevator but don’t know how to do it, don’t worry! There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube for things like this.
All the big Halo 5 forgers went through what you are going through when forge first came out last December. I didn’t attempt my first map until 2-3 weeks after forge came out, and even then it wasn’t my best piece of work in my eyes. It wasn’t until the next map or the one after where I was actually proud of what I made. You learned the old controls, you can learn the new ones as well. You just have to take the time to get use to it
tl,dr: Don’t build a map right away if you are new to forge. Get use to the controls and learn where everything is first. Use YouTube as your guide for things you want to do, but don’t know how to go about it. Become forge legend
I had extreme difficulty adjusting from the previous forges to the new one. It took me a week to understand the controls, I was ready to give up trying within the first 10 minutes but I really wanted to build my signature forge project… By the time I got done with it I had already mastered the forge. Scripting is a bit more complex you may need guides or scripted samples to look at in order to understand that.
I may put together a few heavily scripted prefabs soon.
Another thing you could try is the primitives. Especially the “simple” primitives. They’re easy to use. Go into Tidal, delete all the objects, but the 256 x 256 floor. Snap your movement to 4 feet and start placing blocks. That’s how some of the best maps start out, because it’s fast. Study the controls helper on the left side as you go. Use duplicate instead of going into the menu a lot. If you miss Reach’s premade buildings search for prefabs that you like. It’s still your map, even if it’s prefabs.
For me it is as well. I see so many maps like the infection or whatever ones and have no idea where those objects were. When I was messing around on Basin, I didn’t see any of those objects at all! To difficult
