Greetings fellow Spartans,
Today I’d like to share a quick thought and get some feed back, see if we can get the attention of the 343i people. Look, we all have used forge at some point or another and have enjoyed creating our own maps, or tweaking those that already exsist. Now our current building components are awesome, best yet in fact. However I still often wonder, how great would it be if we had the ability to use say, floors, or walls or ceilings from exsisting maps in our own custom designs? In other words, being able to fully create an “in game looking” forge map. Blocks, walls, windows and such are awesome, yet our maps just never look the same as what is already at our fingertips thanks to the great talent of 343i.
I love our maps, I really do and I play on them as much as I can at times. However I find myself disappearing into forge to see what I can create for myself and to share with others…recently though someone called a map of mine crap. It was an ok map, or so I thought but hey people have a voice and I listen. Point is, I just think it would be really cool if we as players and creators had parts from actual maps availble in forge so we could take our creativity to the next step.
Thank You
OptimusFlynn
On the one hand, that sounds really cool. On the other hand, we’d just be playing with more Forge blocks, wouldn’t we?
Don’t get me wrong, I think variety is awesome and it would be great to have a more exhaustive palette of blocks and pieces to work with. However, playing with legos is only playing with legos.
I’m still hoping to have time settings on a map (as in, daytime/dawn/dusk/twilight) and maybe a few weather conditions. However, those would also get old as well. Having only so many options will always have our custom maps look like bunk.
I say we get used to it. The only way we would ever be able to make maps exactly the way we want to is to be a game developer, or simply have the know-how to crack the disc’s code and acknowledge that only our close friends would be able to sample our creations.
(On another topic, I think it would have been fun if Forge Island had a terrain deformer tool so we could make hills or possibly cliffs. That could be coupled with a boole tool so we could make tunnels through those hills.)
Agreed, daytime/night/dusk/dawn all of that would be cool. The land deforming concept would be great as well, for instance if we could pick the degree settings for sink ins and rises for holes or mountains, and cliff extentions would be fun too. I just hope for some more scale designs with wall and ceiling pieces. I would love for that and still keep what we have in Forge.
