Yea, the xbox one should be able to handle more processing power than the 360, so what’s to stop making a full fledged map editor. Like terrain/weather stuff.
Part of me doesn’t want a map editor, but part of me does. Part of what makes forge maps great is the creativity that goes into it. So i like the idea that we have to make do with what we have. But i do agree we need stuff like hills and giant rocks with caves and stuff. I think that would be cool. but if there were to be a map editor then i think they really need to go all out. Maybe put it on a separate disk. It needs to be amazing if there were to be one. but like i said i am split, it would have to be REALLY good if they did a map editor.

i don’t think the problem is processing power.
The problem would most likely be complexity
i imagine that Forge is MUCH easier to use than a fully fledged map editor.
And easier tools to work with would appeal to more players (myself included)

Sorry, what?
Anyways on topic, Yes yes yes! I need a map creator. You would also need a better file share system and forums for publishing maps.
Forge IS a map editor. What you want (I assume) is a terrain editor with an update of the current Forge layered on top of it. And we all do. The real question is if 343i wants to do it, because it has a chance of harming DLC sales.
Yes please

FarCry 2’s map editor is extremely simple and at the same time, way more in-depth than Forge. I haven’t played FarCry 3, but I assume it’s about the same.

I don’t understand why everyone says “put it on another disc”. Forge (or its successor) is able to become an extensive map editor while simultaneously retaining its simplicity and ease of use. Check out FarCry 2 or FarCry 3 if you want proof. Both of those map editors work perfectly with the console interface.
Imagine dedicated servers, a full-fledged map editor, and the inclusion of custom games. If these concepts are implemented correctly, it would one of those revolutionary ideas that Halo is (or was) known for. They don’t need to change the core gameplay; they need to innovate on the features that complement its experience.

Even with the most advanced map editors DLC will always continue to sell. First off, As much as I love the creativity involved with much of the community and their forge maps(and the idea of what they could do with full fledged editors) they still aren’t made by full teams of devs that have degrees and do this stuff for a living. I highly doubt we would have an editor that would let us paint skyboxes and that alone will make default/DLC maps better looking. Their are always some restrictions that make a map a map editor map a little worse than dev maps(aesthetically at least). If we didn’t have the ability to make objects move in our maps or map sounds things like the Terminal train or the Zanzibar turbine wouldn’t be possible and would make dev maps a little better. Their would also be the ability for devs to add new vehicles and such to future DLC. Things which would be impossible for a map editor to use. If anything the players would only benefit from this as the devs would really be forced to pump out some quality DLC. Nobody really loses when a map editor becomes introduced to a game.
We’ll never get one because then -Yoink!- would never be able to sell DLC for the game.
Despite my hatred of the Xbox One, my lack of funds, and my nervousness about where the franchise is going, a fully fledged map editor would convince me to purchase Halo 5, an Xbox One, and Xbox LIVE instantly. There’d be no saying no.
absolutely yes OP I mean why not??? It has potential to benefit the community as a whole.
Try using Source Hammer with a xbox controller.
YES, They could do DLC aswell by adding more building blocks for forge and locations, like how DLC works in other create games like LBP and Modnation racers.
Great idea! SPoPs replaced Firefight… Hm… What other Halo elements can we remove? That have truly defined Halo as Halo…
Of course! Forge!
Advanced Forge = Yes! ; Map Editor = NO!
Just think about it. How are they supposed to get money with DLCs then? Do you want -Yoink- like in GOW 3 where you can buy Windows-Paint(old)-Edited Weapon skins??
Ahhh… honestly… actually I don’t mind! Microsoft -Yoinked!- up computer games for me. Thanks by the way! Now I can spend my money for other things!
We’ve asked for a better map editor for Halo 4, before the game was released, and read a few days after that we weren’t supposed to actually have as much creative freedom as we’ve had in the past games.
They purposely restricted us for Halo 4, why would they undo that for Halo 5?

Hatred? For what? (Other than the suspension from one’s account, thats just a yoink move…)

Agreed, but it’d have to be a bit simplistic.
OT: Has anyone here ever tried using Valve’s Hammer map Editor?
If not, I suggest you go give it a try. Once you’re done with that, come back and tell me you not only understand it, but you think you could do that with an xbox 360 controller.
Seriously, I’d love to see the communities reaction to that.
The thing about a fully fledged map editor is that they are quite complicated, and most people I’ve talked to don’t really know much about creating quality maps and taking player traits, LoS and various things into account. While I don’t doubt there are forgers out there who understand these things, most do not, and giving those people a fully fledged map editor insted of a simplistic forge editor would be a bit crazy.
My suggestion then, is that we still have forge. However, 343i should develop a map editor for the computer for people getting into map design, so they have the option to work with a full map editor and make amazing maps. They should then be able to port those maps to the xbox, with options to texture their own blocks and objects or choose from a set couple of pallets for things to be placed on the map.
Not only would this give map makers an amazing tool to work with and really drive community creativity, but it would allow them to also create maps for forgers who want to use a more simplistic map editor but have different pallets and areas to build.
Forge would be used more for custom game maps, and the map editor for competitive maps and new forge pallets.
The only problem I can see with this is that it could overshadow DLC. My thought for this then, is that if 343i chooses to implement community maps into matchmaking, players have to buy them to use them.
343i could develop a way to allow those maps to be played in customs, but if the same maps got introduced to the online populace you would have to pay to play them.
There may be complications to this, but I hope it doesn’t seem like a terrible idea.
