Forge's List Browsing

It sucks.
Why does it suck?
It sucks because it is categorized by type. This is not the problem. This problem is this. Each “block” reads out as
“block 32x32x16”. You don’t know what the hell that will look like so you select it.
AND HERE IS THE PROBLEM.
THE MENU DISAPPEARS WHY?!
NOT ONLY THIS, BUT IF YOU GO BACK TO THE MENU, IT IS NO LONGER IN THE EXACT LIST YOU WERE IN, IT IS IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CATEGORY I DIDNT SELECT.

HERE is how,you will fix this list:
Get rid of the dimensions in th object title, replacing it with a general block. Once selected, you are in “shaper” mode. You can choose the dimensions yourself.
L = Left stick
W = Right stick
Upward dimensions= LT
Downward dimensions = RT
Press A when finished and now block is placeable and saveable in the menu.

Option Number 2: preview mode.
When scrolling down list, select a block. List stays active until pressing Y
If preview mode is enabled, blocks will render to show you dimensions and design.

I seriously have no idea how this concept got past them. Unless every one at 343 is a genius engineer why believes every one , including themselves, think in numbers and can visualize it without seeing it.

What do you guys think?
Am I the only one who gets frustrated with forge, wishing I could know all of the pieces I have at my disposal without having to constantly re-adjust myself to the constantly moving menus…?

There’s a bug where this happens if you accidentally open the tool menu (X) instead of the spawn menu (Y). Opening one menu loses your position in the other. If you open the spawn menu directly, though, then you should still be in the same spot. So it’s annoying, but as you get more familiar with the controls, you’ll be able to avoid it.

It’s my understanding that the Havok physics engine doesn’t play nice with arbitrary scaling and sizing. This would be super useful, but extremely difficult to implement.

Uh… You realize that Bungie’s best Forge also did this exact same thing, right?

I have a vivid memory of being able to quickly check an objects size and move on to the next. Halo Reach’s forge was not difficult to use or to spawn objects so why is this one?

Thanks for letting me know,about the bug because I have been doing that,constantly,lol.

Argument still stands. Give me quick look, preview mode, silhouettes, outline, opaque whatever. I’m having to spawn everything in one area and go back to see what I should add to my building by duplication.

Reach didn’t have the menu bug, but aside from that, it worked exactly the same. It had fewer block sizes and the units were a little friendlier, so maybe that’s why it felt easier? (I’ve heard that eight world units in Halo 5 is one world unit in Halo: Reach, so a 32x32x32 block in Halo 5 should be the same as a 4x4 Block Tall in Reach. Perhaps knowing that will help you picture it all better?)

Aye, an optional thumbnail or something on the menus would be very helpful for learning the palette. There are 1700 objects, and while it’s possible to memorize a few favourites, that’s still a lot that we have to check through trial and error when looking for useful pieces.
