Forge

I recently got an Xbox One and Halo 5 with it in December. There’s some things about the game that I don’t like such as removal of splitscreen play. But requiring a Gold membership to play Forge, even alone? Completely absurd. This is probably wishful thinking but I’d love for that to be changed somehow, by an update or something. The game is very unfriendly to offline/without gold players, especially in comparison to previous Halo games.

Halo 5’s Forge mode is by far the biggest and most capable iteration in the entire series, but it’s also one of the more complicated versions too. With so many usable parts and pieces available for use on these massive landscapes, it’d be very difficult to get all of its assets to be readily usable (while offline and without Gold membership) on your Xbox console.

Alternatively, Halo 5: Forge is available for free for your Windows 10 PC. Just ensure you meet the minimum system requirements before you get it.

THE CONTROLS ARE SO CONFUSING IN FORGE!!!

If its an incredibly large mode, I can understand requiring to download or install it, like with Halo 4. But requiring Gold? That’s just dumb

I used to feel the same way back when Forge launched, but I’ve become so accustomed to them at this point to the point I have more difficulty using the older Forge modes now. Just keep practicing doing simple movements, like placing blocks, rotating objects, set a rotation snap to make precise turns, and maybe turn the magnets on and make a simple building/box. That’s where I started with it, and it just feels so right.

Unless 343i patched something and I never heard about it, Halo 5 hosts Forge sessions on dedicated servers (with all the problems that that implies). Using dedis for this allows them to handle cloud storage really cleanly, but it also means that you get booted out of Forge if your session runs too long… and that you can’t play Forge without Gold.

They are confusing but keep Forging and watching tutorial videos. You’ll master it soon enough. It took me a while but I’m pretty good at it myself now.
