Forge World/Forge altogether

I can confidently say that Halo 5ʻs forge is the best. People complained about it in the beginning but I know through time they used it better than Reach, 3, 4ʻs forge. Though in Halo 5 will everything carry over from Halo 5ʻs forge to Halo Infinite if it has forge? I know new things always will be added but Halo 5 clearly had to best of content already. And I hope they do carry over.

Most importantly, I really hope they give a better forge world. Halo 5ʻs forge world was believed to be huge… but not alive. I hope it can be huge and alive. That would be great.

Agreed that Forge in Halo 5 is really good, but what do you mean when you say huge versus alive?

Halo 5’s forge is great, but 343 was too slow to implement new and better maps into ranked playlists. To this day, we’re still watching HCS competitions on the same launch maps, which has made Halo 5 ridiculously stale. I believe poor matchmaking maps and not enough new quality maps hurt Halo 5’s matchmaking more than anything else. I’d say half the maps in Halo 5 are average. The rest are below average, and all the re-imagined multiplayer maps were average to below average as well. One thing Halo 2 had was quality maps post-launch, even Halo 3 did to a degree. You can look back and it’s so easy to see the difference. I only listed new maps that I thought were decent. There some I didn’t list, because I didn’t care for them as much.

Halo2:

  • Relic - Terminal - Turf - Warlock - Sanctuary - Elongation - Desolation
    Halo 3:

  • Rat’s Next - Stand Off - Foundry - Avalanche - HereticBut I’m getting off-topic lol. Halo 5 forge was great but utilized poorly in matchmaking.

I really haven’t dove into forge since Halo 3. What is it like in Halo 5 that makes it so good? And what should be carried over into Infinite?

Every little aspect doesnt have to carry of from halo 5 but all of the major additions I think need to return. As for the forge world, halo 5 does have big ones but I think the actual forge world was bigger. I’ve even seen forge world. Remade in halo 5 and it looked a lot smaller than in reach. And I dont mean felt smaller because of sprint I mean it looked smaller. We need more forge world sizes maps

Really good scripting, prefab system, grouping/welding tied to vehicle welding so custom vehicles basically, a lot more nature pieces, sounds, fx, timmy :D, plenty of flat environments, plenty of covey and forerunner pieces, phantom/pelican props, and over all just a lot of customizable settings

In Halo 3 forge, you mainly could just plop in any object from the game and have fun with that. Simply put in Halo 5, you can practically make your own story out of it.

I say huge, but not alive because: The forge maps in Halo 5 are mainly just default plains of floor and dirt. Its your backround scenery. How each map is either plains, snow, space, water, ect. But nothing really natural about it. Only in the distance (or out of bounds area) you see nature itself. You donʻt see waterfalls you can go under. You dont see random avalanches in a snow biome. You donʻt see asteroids floating by. You donʻt even see fishes in the ocean or the ocean itself being lively.

I guess my take is that they need to add more direct natural climate than just huge rocks.

I’m sure Forge will come back with AT LEAST the same functions enhanced! :relaxed:

I hope to see a back button, an option to mirror props as well combined pieces, new scripting tools, landscaping, intractable elements and of course AI spawns! It might never happen, but let me dream!^^

I wish they gave us an option to add in nature. Like water, lava, fire, waterfalls, wind and win strength ect. Nature altogether.

I’d love to see Halo Reach’s forge world in infinite with extended borders like if you go around the cliff face towards blood gulch you end up in a bit more of the map also spawnable ships like frigates would be amazing

Tom French more or less confirmed last year that AI was going to be a priority to try and get into forge in the next game, so fingers crossed that we’ll get that.
Because then I won’t build maps for literally no reason just to play on them empty and alone like I have for the past 3 games, I’d actually be able to make mini campaign maps out of them.

I am excited to see how they will utilize the budget system, in halo 5 you could build some massive maps before the system budget would be used up. I hope that with this new engine players can essentially build anything they want and put down enough pieces to make their map extremely detailed all while maintaining a steady frame rate

You can already change the wind and wind strength in Halo 5. It effects fire+smoke plus whatever particle effects you have on.
Lava/running water would be really cool. You could make your own lakes and rivers which would drastically change how maps flow. Hopefully they add water vechicals as well.

Yeah instead of painting a block red or blue with a kill block on it.
