forge: what we want, can, and can't do

I’ve been playing with forge on and off since 3 and know how far it has come since the days of glitchING the teleporters. We have seen many improvements since then. I really enjoy scripting. Although, I feel easily confused by the elements of scripting. For example scripting items to rotate is not as simple as I would like. I guess the ui isn’t user friendly in my opinion. I do feel I’m getting the hang of it but objects don’t rotate on axis that I think they should. I wish I could see the direction that the object will move if I change the setting. Like how the cinematic Camara show which direction they will pan.

I cannot script spawn points. I dislike this. The idea I had was to have spawn points disappear when a switch was hit and players would spawn on a new platform. This could also change the dynamics of maps we build and open more options game wise.
If this is do-able in another way, please explain in simple terms lol.

I have been keeping things as simple as I could when I build and slowly increasing the complexity of my scripts. They say they kept it broad in order to see what we would do. How do you think they should improve forge and scripting more?bloo plague

What I’d rly like in forge is tropical looking landscapes and a dedicated dessert look. Right now we’ve got the moon stuff that can be made to look dessert but I think we should get more landscapes.

Also so wish we could add water to maps but I can see how that would be hard but maybe they could make it like mine craft where it just fills an area.

I wish there was an area like the planet from campain.

I’d like for proximity sensors, the ability to script volumes, and more little decorative trash like Halo 3 had.

Dude… that’s an awesome idea! The water system in minecraft is great :slight_smile:

I want the ability for a weapon pad to spawn 1 of 8 different weapons and disable the audio/visual countdowns like how the random weapon drops were in Halo 4.

-A lot of the Forge UI in H5 needs revamps especially when it comes to the cinematic camera. What I think should happen in terms of having scripted rotating objects is that there should be a line or a ghosted version of the objects showing you where the rotating object will go or moving object will go, and if the ghosting doesnt work, then at least a line or an arrow showing where it moves or where it will stop etc.

-In terms of the spawn point changing, what you could probably do is group objects or an object to a spawn point and have the group itself move. If that does not work then simply have an object move above or on the spawn points thus restricting the ability of players spawning there.

-I have been finding many ways to make things that you can’t normally make in older forge or stuff that you can make in older versions of forge but in H5. For example; I found a way to make an object instantly kill you 9 times out of 10 just by touching it and launching your corpse off into the distance… How is this useful? I’m not sure yet but I made it :3.

-I feel that they should like I pointed out in my first bit, add ghosted tooltips or something, even make it toggle-able. I also feel that better forge textures would be nice, people can get pretty creative but it gets pretty bland when you are staring at flat discolorated walls from 3DS max.

-I won’t go on a tangent about the blank objects and I’ll try not rant about my 2nd biggest peeve about H5, the lighting engine. >:( Better than Halo 5 but worse than Halo 3 that’s all I will say in terms of lighting on spartans.

I would like to see how you did that killing/launching script. Lol I wish I had more message channels.

Maybe a cube shape with the top of it being calm water and the player being able to set width/height/depth

And with the ability to set the hight of the water on the base map, like on Alpine it would be nice to raise the water level to change the shore line.

These sound pretty difficult to program. Water is already a challenge for programers.
I do agree with having it. But if we have that I also want lava lol…
I do like the new sky box in paralax.
I would like to see for gable places from campaign.
Ie sanghilios and the foierunner planet. Some even want a forge world like in reach.

Also. On an unrelated note…can some one build Valhalla with snow blocks? I remember seeing a photo shopped version of that map in my h3 days and got really hyped. It neverhappened. Lol

Here is a list of problems I have come up with:

1./ No option to script welded objects
2./ Magnets ruin my saved map so that when the map is reloaded they’re all in the wrong place.
3./ No option to re-set script objects; instead you have to save and reload a map (this can result in objects moving when they shouldn’t or not spawning properly - NOT down to scripting errors!)

I have basically stopped forging because I have re-made an awesome map so many times for the scripts to mess up the entire process.

I can see that… after I hit my ‘reset switch’ the objects reset but the object is ghosted and can be walked through
