Does anyone know anything about forge other than that it is going to be in Halo 4? As a big-time forger, I don’t like being in the dark! The matchmaking community and campaigners got their wishes; we want our presents now. :3 I will update this thread with everything we discover about forge to keep the community up to date.
No information as of yet.
10…1000 bucks it will be renamed Cartographer. Personally, it should have been this all along, “Map Maker”.
One of my inside sources said something about some structures being breakable, but that doesn’t really have to do with forge.
We know the following:
It’s in Halo 4.
343 improved on it.
343 will talk more about it later in the summer.
That’s all we know.
Well, if Reach is anything to go by, then Forge will be ignored and all default maps will be complained about.
Specifically, they have said that it will have “significant improvements”, while maintaining “Forge’s ease of use, scale and scope.” They’ve also cautioned us not to expect total, limitless freedom.
I love surprises. I wouldn’t mind if they said nothing of forge until the game comes out. And then everybody’s brains explode…
No information on forge yet. Forge information will likely come at SDCC, I’m not so sure about RTX.
I hope that they don’t have grey items like Reach’s forge though, that’d automatically kill a few thousand hours of replay value per person. They need three, at minimum, forge maps with their own unique forge objects.
Forge features are confirmed to be returning. No other details other than we will release more information later prior to the game release.
Reach had a cut down Bungie team on the project, it is the reason multplayer maps were built/extended into campaign missions. It’s also the reasons many Halo 3 assets were simply reworked. It’s also the reason Forge and maps were less built from the ground up on the initial game release.
We won’t see that limited resources invested into 343i’s Halo 4 version of Forge. I’m guessing vast improvements and custom built maps/objects in excess of Reach Forge.

I think gray objects are fine, as long as there are alternatives (unlike Reach, where gray was about it). I’d hate for them to cut gray altogether, simply because spaceship-type maps sort of need the gray texture. Hopefully, they’ll either give us a larger palette with a greater variety in texture/color, or else give us texture skins to apply to the various objects (or both).
Even better would be if we could do some color manipulation to the objects (especially in addition to texture skins). For example, I could add a slight blue tint to a gray texture (in this case, I would do that to create a Star Trek Enterprise hull color). Another option that would be neat, either in place of or in addition to color manipulation, would be the ability to control the darkness/shade of the textures (ie, change from light gray to medium or dark gray, and be able to do that with any texture/color).

The name forge (probably) came from Bungie’s game, Marathon: Infinity, which had a map making mode called, you guessed it, Forge. Considering they put Marathon Easter Eggs in Halo all the time, and they really love Marathon, If I were them, I would choose to call it Forge too.
But 343 didn’t make Marathon, so you might be right.
Well, uh, it’s gonna be in Halo 4, and, um, it will be better than Reach’s Forge, and uh, that’s it.
That it will be improved.

Well forge was not a map maker when it was made. It was more for setting spawns and weapons. After Bungie saw what people did with it…well they made the heroic map pack with more forge able items.
We know that there will be sizable upgrades to forge but it will still have the same
“ease of use” that forge has had in 3 & reach.
BS angel answered a question in a bulletin on how complex forge will be. She said that it will not be a full on map editor (make mountains, caves, weather, etc.), but they made some enhancements.

wrong they never confirmed or denied weather. And you can already make caves in reach lol
I think you will create simulation environments on the Holo-Deck of the Infinity. I hope to see themed maps (Covie, Human, Forerunner) each with unique peices! We need some curvy Covie selection, enough square blocks lol
