Forge Tips

I’ve been playing since the days of 3 (online since reach) but have not ever really delved into forge simply because I have no idea where to start? I would love to start forging does anyone have any tips on where to begin?

Whenever I start forge on a new halo game, I try to build a house. Just using basic blocks and without youtube tutorials. It helps me get acquainted with the controls and tools available.

I find that it is useful to pick a style, figure out how you are going to build different things, and then build the actual map. I did this today with Breakout pieces. I now have a good grasp of which pieces look like what and what they do. I am preparing to build my very first Halo 5 map.

Honestly with so many pieces to choose from these days. The best thing to do is open up a map and just start going through the menus placing different blocks, props, etc. This lets you get use to the controls and know all the pieces you can use and how to find them.

Just kinda play around make a bunch of different things, try out the tools menu, get use to using magnets, duplicating items, making groups, switching parents around etc.

Then when you are feeling comfortable watch some forge videos on youtube, forgelabs is pretty good and try and build your own versions of some of the smaller prefabs he has tutorials on.

Another thing you can do is load up maps from others in forges and dissect them, see how they made parts you like, how they place barriers and boundaries etc.

Build a potato!!

Browse through the endless sea of object menus, and find one particular piece you really like. Now, take this piece, and change it’s colors, play with the glossiness a bit, maybe change it’s material. Make it yours.

Take your piece. Using it, make a little environment or larger object with it. It doesn’t have to be big, it can be as small as you would like it to be. Maybe you just wanna make a simple alleyway, or a telephone pole, or something from your wildest imagination. It doesn’t matter what you make.

Then, do it all over again. Make a few items on a map you just play around in. Pretty soon, you’ll have the controls and settings down, and you’ll be ready for your first map.

Hey I’m working on an Invasion map but I have no idea how to spawn objectives so the attacking team know where to “attack” next.
Can anyone tell me where I should look?
