Forge System Idea

I feel like Forge it’s too complex in the newer Halo games or at least it is for me now someone mentioned this a while back but I can see either 343 doesn’t care or didn’t listen have a more complex system like what they currently have but then have a more simple system like Halo 2 Anniversary or Halo Reach another thing I have mentioned myself before is Forge World from Halo Reach needs to return I don’t care what anyone says loved that map

Forge is definitely getting more complicated.

But you can keep it simple if you want. It’s relatively easy to just spawn an object, rotate it, and drop it into the map. The magnet system for aligning things is pretty straight forward (albeit a bit frustrating until you get the hang of coming in at the right angle).

You don’t have to get super involved in scripting etc.

From what i heard theres going to be multiple control schrmes that you can use with one of them being closer to the halo 3-4 control scheme so it will be easier for people to jump in unlike halo 5’s forge(legit i couldn’t get into it’s forge because of its control scheme)

Out of interest - what was the main issue?

I only really got into forge through H5. Scripting sucked me in.

For me it felt like a pain to regrab and modify the placement of items with a controller my memory of halo 5 forge is fuzzy as i only tried it for two weeks before dropping it and going into the custom games browser

Like all i remember was i actually had to look up a video on the basics and once i was like halfway through the video i was like I’m out

Like you used to just click a and move your reticle around to move a item around now with halo 5 you had press a combination of buttons to move a item around

Which is precisely why i popped off a bit when i got a comment from one of the forgers in the community saying that you could use a control scheme thats closer to the old system ie use a to grab and move objects when asking them a few questions about the new forge ie how easy will it be to swap between a mouse and controller and will there be multiple control schemes

I wanted to get back into forge when it came out and was prepared to having to relearn the basics(assumed that it would be exactly like how 5’s forge controls) and legit smiled after hearing that there’s multiple control schemes

I think being able to wirelessly connect Bluetooth mouse and keyboard for content creators really putting effort into forge for the first time on xbox consol3s will assist in their enjoyment and appreciation of the new forge controls which naturally encompass the controller-mouse-keyboard trifecta.

edit: I use all three accessories when forging, but I have committed all of the controls to memory to improve my workflow. it seems like a very good idea that infinite forge ships with a default(simplified MCCesque) controller button layout. there should just be an option in the start menu for lobby leaders to set who has access to advanced forge control layouts (controller-mouse-keyboard usage). I suggest this might be helpful for filtering map/prop owners for the marketplace.

I still prefer the controls for Halo 2 Anniversary Forge or Halo Reach Forge it was the easiest for me to use and I don’t know what your personal thoughts are but I really like Halo Reach Forge World my friend actually did a lot with that I did some things with it but not as much he’s better at creating things than I am but still I enjoyed it out of any of the other Maps I really wish it would return I think it would look great with the new graphics in Halo Infinite

Forge in Halo Reach was untouchable in the designs and abilities that map creators could create. This new direction of forge is going to be our legendary. Seeing what’s being “leaked” I’ve got nothing but faith that the community is going to create absolute insane maps and the “traditional” feel of halo gaming will be back again!

Granted it is more complicated and there is a learning curve. Personally I don’t mind learning more about Forge. I knew nothing about Halo 5 Forge but I did learn it. I can do the same for for Halo Infinite.

Remember! The more complicated Forge is the better the maps will be!

Stated perfectly fellow Spartan. The curve may be large, but creators will spend hundreds if not thousands of hours creating masterpieces.

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with it being more complicated but I still want a more simplified version maybe you aren’t understanding what I’m saying plus not everyone can spend hundreds of hours I know I can’t because I have a freaking job plus other things so I can’t just sit on my butt all day when I get home from work and create stuff in Forge plus I’m not good at creating Maps that could be used as some sort of game type I just like to build stuff for fun in Forge but with it being as complicated as it is for me it’s pretty much freaking impossible

I feel this giant sentence is too complex to understand.

I totally hear what you’re saying. I’ve never been greatly into forge and trying to create. Seeing what’s been leaked leads me to believe it’s an extremely complicated process that takes hours upon hours.

I’m uncertain how a simplified version could be made.

Even then, there are ways to look things up if whoever feels the need.

It might be a little too much to add, but it would be nice if there was a layout on how things work :man_shrugging:

I agree. Now if any of you guys ever played Tribes 2 and or Tribes Ascend I will try to make a Tribes Ascend Map Called Raindance. Now Tribes 2 uses jet pack. So far I have not seen and jet pack abilities so far in any of the Custom Game mode setting thus far. So what I did was increase the movement ( Tribes 2 and Tribes Ascend was a very fast movement game anyway ) and did some low gravity settings. So far so good when I did some testing with the settings.

Here is video of TRIBES Ascend Raindance! for those who care

This has nothing to do with the conversation at hand. Don’t change the subject for no reason.

I think I saw evidence somewhere that Forge will feature a simplified control scheme for people who can’t grasp the new controls so well. Take it with a grain of salt.

If I had to pick between the simple controls of H2A or the (slightly) complex controls of H5, I’m going with the complex route every time. One of the issues that comes with developing Forge into something better with each iteration is that the skill floor for people to jump in and start making things has to raise, but this also means the skill ceiling for what’s possible raises drastically.

I think it would be an all around benifit to provide a casual forging experience to players whom wish to opt into that, so long as they leave the far superior H5 control scheme in tact for people like me who obsess with niche details.

At the end of the day I just hope everyone gets an experience that brings them a sense of creativity and joy. Forging can be so much fun, and it’s good for the most amount of people to experience that to the fullest.

EDIT: Also, yeah I agree on that part you mentioned about Forge World. While it’s super important for the pros to have massive canvasses with minimal restraints, it’s also super important for the casuals to have a foundation on which they can build their own ideas. Sometimes you just need a pre-existing box canyon.
