There. I said it. It’s about as overrated as Blood Gulch. It also receives way too much attention in the development process.
Lets be honest here, custom games haven’t been relevant since Halo 3.
Now I know these forums will confuse what I’m saying with “no one plays custom games anymore. Ever.” And will post some anecdotal example of how “But I forge and play custom games all the time with my best friend OvularOniion78639394(1)!!!”
Im not saying remove it. Because that would put me on the same level as the idiots who say “Firefight shouldn’t be in the game because it wasn’t as popular as it could have been!”
What I am saying is that the ONLY ways to make Forge appealing on a massive scale is if we get a full blown map creator and/or the ability to place AI in forge. That’s it.
Please, 343, if you insist on continuing to allocate countless hours and resources on a mere map editor, please consider giving us AI. This would please those vying for Firefight/ a mission editor of sorts.
I know this thread is controversial. But I’m asking a few people in the community to think outside the box once in a while.
Pretty sure an easier way of sharing and playing community creations would do more than Forge’able AI. What good would that feature be if we didn’t have a reliable and easy way of distributing the creation to others - or worst case, flat out didn’t have that ability at all? Best case scenario would be we get both features, but I’d take a better sharing system as my first priority.

Even if they did something like a custom game finder, if it isn’t incentivized with some EXP system, people won’t play it.
But it WOULD make it more enjoyable, true. I just don’t think it would be as big as people say.

Your suggestions aren’t anything new. Some people have been requesting this for a while without being so coarse in tone.

I am aware these aren’t fresh ideas. Other games do them with staggering success.

That would be an interesting concept as well. I hadn’t thought of using the PC for map creation with Halo.

Exactly, messing around with a keyboard and a mouse is a lot more practical than with a controller. That would be something I’d like to see.

Think bigger.
Implement a grotesquely powerful cloud-based map editor and forge system accessible from the Xbox. If they have the servers, let’s use them.
Forge should be able to have ai spawns they show cased some spawns in Warzone so it would be lame if they didn’t transfer that over to forge. In reality modders are the ones who started forge there should be something to allow to further develop maps in some way. Because forge itself is limited there’s probably a reason for that. Although when you see tons of potentional pieces that are in the campaign not being used for forge it just makes you wonder.
If think it over the forge we have been given may seem lazy of a job because of what they could do. Modders have done so much to prove that but if they actually do something worth while and break the limits off as if we were the map designer then that’s fine. Until then we wait til news gets out on new upgrades we hoped for or not.
I agree with you. Forge needs a lot more options
I find myself using forge less and less each game
halo 3- Forged a bunch
Halo Reach- Forged a little bit. Mostly messed around with friends on forge world
Halo 4- messed around a couple of times then never touched it again
Forge is old news now. It needs its “wow” factor back.
As you can tell I’m not crazy about forge but since 343i hasn’t even hinted on anything about it Forge better be something amazing or else its just going to be a disappointment.
Forge sucks only as much as 343 does. By that I mean, Forge is worthless without 343 providing the players with an effective and easy way to share that which has been created using the Forge system. While I did not necessarily like Reach, the game was in many ways kept alive by its’ community which had access to Forge, File-Share, and a File-Browser system. 343 has single-handedly sucked the life out of what was once promising to be “the next big thing” in Halo games; and thatsucks. That doesn’t mean Forge sucks though, by any means.
Point the finger at the people who take time to build decent forge modes, but don’t care to give players any way to make practical use of them. Incompetence is incompetence. Point it out when you see it. Don’t blame the gun or the hand that holds it, or even the foot… Blame the person who won’t stop shooting themselves in the foot!
I think it still has rather inherent value. Granted, Customs aren’t what they used to be, but to those of us who…kind of feel like map design is utter -Yoink- (thank you Sprint)…it’d be nice to see if we could do better.
As great as these additions would be though, Forge is basically predicated on simplicity - that’s one of the reasons AI and full map editors haven’t really been pursued to any great results by either Bungie or 343. It’s putting blocks down in a way that you like. The most complicated part is the physics associated with the way these blocks interact and that’s really it. I’m not saying full map editors or AI are bad ideas, I’d love either, but this game is already too big for splitscreen. What else would they have to cut?
While we’re talking about things that might make Forge more interesting, allow me to echo previous posters and include my own two cents.
First, dedicated Custom Games servers would be phenomenal.
Secondly, the simple ability to re-texture blocks might not be a huge boon to Forge popularity, but it would at least be a great quality of life improvement to those of us who will inevitably play with Sprint off. That also would have made Reach more palatable.
Thirdly, and this might actually coincide with the reasoning behind wanting a full-on map editor, what if we could simply “Copy and Paste?” Take a collection of blocks and turn this collection of blocks into a single Forge piece? You build a tower made of a complex working of struts, rock smalls and toilet seat covers? Congratulations, you may select all of it and place an exact copy of what you just built somewhere else as it’s own Forge piece. Oh, you want to go to a different Forge canvas and make the same tower? Thank god you just made that tower it’s own piece. Two button presses and you’re finished. Instead of a map editor, what about building a giant landscape built with natural forge pieces “copy and pasted” into any canvas you want?
Fourth…ly: If the placement of AI is too taxing on Forge’s engine could we simply place their spawn points? That way the possibility of a Forgeable Firefight mode remains intact without significant harm done to the Xbox. If I could also be a bit excessive, procedurally generated Spartan Ops could be pretty cool, especially if merged with the above Copy and Paste idea. Then again, too big for splitscreen already.
