Forge Special Effects: Good or Bad?

Personally I have mixed feelings about them, but all in all I don’t really think much of the special effects, even in the previous games. Here are my reasons:

Nova - Makes things way too bright.

Next Gen - While I like how the map goes a little darker, which would be good for flood maps; for some reason it makes shadows look very… weird, for lack of a better word.

Juicy - While I can’t really complain too much about this one, I’ve never seen it in use on any map I’ve seen.

Colour blind - It does what it says it does. Black and white everywhere! The only problem I can think of is if someone was silly enough to make a team battle in it. (Betrayals everywhere!)

Old Timey - Well, again it does what it says it does. It makes it look like an old film. I don’t like how it sometimes goes all (glitchy?) sometimes though…

Pen and Ink - Why did they even bother with this one? Pen and Ink (in my opinion remember) does not look very good, especially with Juicy stacked with it! You can’t see a thing!

While I have seen some cool screenshots made with filters on, all in all I think that they could be much better.

What do you think about the Forge Special Effects?

use all at once

You know what would be tons better?
Special effects that affected the Enviroment such as:
Raining effect
Snowfall effect
Nighttime effect
Ashing effect (ash falling from sky as if a nuke or large fire is happening)

I can’t really think of anymore but you get the idea.
It would also be cool for these effects to happen like snowfall you could actually see the ground with snow on it, forge pieces with snow on it also.

I like these ideas! Pity they weren’t included… :frowning:

I wish that next gen and pen and ink hadn’t been changed from halo 3, gloomy ( as it was know before) looked great andnreally captured that dark atmosphere it tried to pull off, while pen and ink mixed with juicy turned the world into a comic

> use all at once

I tried. Can only put four at a time. :frowning:

Yeah, I preferred gloomy. It was a tad too dark for my tastes, but it was much better than Pen and Ink.

You can actually make gloomy, or something like it, by combining colorblind and juicy.

My only complaint is they aren’t used in matchmaking and there aren’t more of them.

Personally I’d like to see the dark ones used on settler. That map is so bright it is often hard to make targets out.

I agree. There should be more of them. And that map IS very bright, I will admit.

I miss the Purple color effect from Reach

> I miss the Purple color effect from Reach

Purple was pretty good. It made for some cool effects. But I still think it could have been improved upon.

As Enaemaehkiw said, a night time effect would be cool. I’m not saying get rid of Purple though. Why not have both!

I would greatly prefer weather/time of day effects to the special effects that have been present in Halo Reach and Halo 4

> I would greatly prefer weather/time of day effects to the special effects that have been present in Halo Reach and Halo 4

I agree, though if they improve on the Special effects available now, I’d much rather have all of them. (Daytime, Night time, juicy, etc.)

'Tis true, but it would be nice to do it with one object

-Yoink!-, my iPad screwed me into double posting

I think most of the effects are useless. Weather effects would be much better.

The one I have always used was juicy. In Halo 3 and Halo Reach Juicy special effect was awesome. But for Halo 4 it just sucks which is why most people don’t use it. Like the biggest problem I have with it makes thing that are orange hot pink instead. Which is very annoying to the point that makes people to not used it at all for forge maps.

Oh man, I remember mixing it with another effect and got this image

That’s a pretty cool image!

Yeah, I’m not saying that I think that the special effects are not good at all. Like you’ve shown, they could be used for some awesome screenshots.

However, in Halo 4 they could, or should in my opinion, have been much better.
