Forge: Savior or Destroyer?

So with all the leaks about forge I am hyped, I think mostly everyone is hyped in the halo community for it, its doing the things people have wanted for this game since launch, my biggest concern is do you think forge will launch with a easy way to find or party up? Custom Games are still a trashfire, and theater mode works half the time so even saving those great moments becomes a challenge. I pray Forge comes out and does great cause I think it might be a last straw for alot of die hards

Forge launching without CGB and Fileshare will not save Halo. Nuff said. If they launch together and is smooth on their launch, Halo may start booming.

it will have fileshare though.

Forge will help Halo Infinite.

It’s hard to say if its a “last straw” or not. I haven’t really played the multiplayer in a while. Recently played a few hours of the campaign again after reading Rubicon Protocol, but otherwise just don’t have any reason to play.

It would be nice if Forge added map variants, but I could care less really, it’s just the same maps with different furniture. If Forge is adding PVE options, then hell yes I’m stoked, but that seems unlikely so I don’t think it will change anything for me… except if it is monetized of course, in which case I’ll just be super pissed. You can’t delay the release of a default feature for a year then sell it because you think people forgot it was supposed to be there.

Honestly, I never use Forge mode. I’ve played on some Forge maps in matchmaking and some few random gametypes that were added in, but most of Forge’s content is played in Custom Games.

Besides a map and gametype variant added here or there randomly in matchmaking… what is Forge going to actually do for matchmaking? Sure, they’ve given us the tools to make our own content to an extent, but 343 still has the final say to “okay” that content and put it in to official rotation.

I think people are counting their chickens before they have hatched and I’m afraid players might be even more upset if Forge ends up just being another bust. Hopefully, I’m wrong and Forge just magically fills all the playlists to the brim with all sorts of new content.

I hope so too, because given 343’s current pace its clear that they themselves aren’t gonna fill the playlists with new content very often.

I’m trying to remain hopeful and optimistic but we all already know what to expect from 343 by now. They will practically weaponize Forge against us. The Forge content that Forgers will slave over will undoubtedly be limited to Events of some kind or a specific rotated playlist or Custom Games. Will playing Forge content in Custom Games allow Challenges to be completed? If not, how are they going to get Forge players to buy Battle Passes? I think Forge is going to need more work done to it even after it gets launched before it can be considered the “Savior.”

You make an excellent point. Though I don’t think 343 Industries would have the audacity to create and release a Forge mode without a way to use it, if they don’t have these features up and running by then, Forge is going to miss out on a lot of hype-- and might even put another nail in the coffin.

It needs its Custom Games Browser, working Custom Games menu and fileshare systems. Unarguably. Halo 5: Guardians set the precedent for what the quality bar is there, and Halo Infinite should not dare to fall beneath it if it has any intention to survive. (It already has in most other aspects, but I’m specifically referring to Forge and social features.)

I know it is for me, but knowing how there is a lot of issues in this game as is, I don’t doubt forge will have issues as well. It’s just wondering what issues and will players be able to tolerate them. Also, if custom games is a problem that is going to be huge problem with forge.

The Halo Infinite Forge do definitely look promising and will probably become a worthy successor to the Halo 5 Forge. However, the main factor that will decide if Halo Infinite’s Forge will become successful is how widely used it will be by the Forge community itself.

What is dead may never die.

I want to forge in VR with mark VI mjolnir VR helmets for Christmas

Will neither Save or Destroy, but would bring some people back into making maps & customs games again

Just hoping 343 doesn’t decided to just use Forge maps for Multiplayer like they did with Halo 5

Neither. There’s sufficient hype around Forge that I think people will come back for it, but it’s not the sort of thing that brings in new players. It’s not a “BrOaDeR aUdIeNcE” pleaser.

Forge under 343 is a hyper useful editing tool, but it’s not a super user-friendly one. By that, I mean in Halo 3, Reach and 4, the editing tools were very simplistic. I, as a casual Forger, could come in there and make an acceptable map. At least one that’s fun enough for me and a couple of friends to play around on.

The issue with 5’s Forge, as well as Infinite, is that the system is extremely complex, and Infinite’s Forge looks even more complex than 5’s was. This is not going to appeal to casual Forge players who just want to mess around in Forge. I personally feel that it will stifle creativity immensely, because it will be harder for average players to create unique maps.

On top of that, there is a very high chance Forge does not launch with CGB. If it doesn’t launch with the Custom Games Browser, it’s DOA. There’s no way it can pull itself back from that.

Very, very few Forge variant maps will make it into matchmaking either. All of them will need to be play-tested before they can make it in, and I don’t doubt a lot of them will fail whatever metrics 343 has established for what can and cannot make it into matchmaking.

My final, major concern is regarding Forge’s price. There is absolutely no way that Forge will launch F2P, because I personally don’t believe 343 of all companies would put out a useful editing tool and not charge anything for it. We DO NOT have confirmation from an OFFICIAL 343 source that Forge will not be monetized. The silence of 343 PR individuals is majorly concerning on this front.

I can see them requiring you purchase the game.
60$—yuck For what used to be part of previous halo games.
Like, i wouldnt be surprised to see you need to own both campaign and multiplayer, and buy a season pass or subscription fee.
Then further monetized with mtxs, some time limited to bolster fomo

Launching Forge without a proper CGB, fixed Custom Games where we can select weapon variants and starting equipment, not to mention THE ABILITY TO SAVE GAMETYPES WITH OVERRIDES, Theatre Mode and File Share is total suicide…

I was so hyped for halo infinites release date that it was like waiting for the release of ODST and reach again.

Turns out it was a giant broken cash grab.

I will never get my hopes up for halo updates and new title’s again.
