So this has been going on for about a week for me now where eventually saving a map as new then exiting will firstly cause the map (when reloaded in customs or forge) to not load the information on the lobby screen and instead infinitely be stuck with the “retrieving data” message in the lobby and the map name will be blank in the lobby screen. (Original name given at the time of the initial Save Map As still appears in selection menu). The map overall still functions and loads up correctly in game. Secondly, when reloaded in forge, I am unable to Save Map As at this point. Instead it notifies you that it is attempting to save, then says “Saving…failed”. But the normal Save Map (saving progress/ quick saves) still functions as normal.
All this prevents you from saving progress on a map as a new name and loading map details to add quick changes from the lobby menu. For example, I was trying to save a new version of a map from Testing Name 1.0 to Testing Name 2.0.
A quick fix I found is to have a friend load up the desired save file from your fileshare into their own forge game, then you join their game and save the map as new. This allows you to change names and freely save games again until you run into the bug again. I’ve had to do this 3 times today.
So I had the problem in the menu for loading the map where it simply start spinning and says retrieving data but never loads the map… I think I may have found a solution…
When you go into forge menu to select the map you built, but won’t load, choose y so that you can alter the file settings. From here change the name of the file in my case I simply had filename2.
Now go back to your menu and choose the new file will be under the new file name. you will have lost the old file name but your new filename will load.
This must have something to do with how forge opens and closes a file. My guess is that once forge closes a file properly it writes the header and footer to the file and leave the data in the center. what must be causing the error, is that the header or footer information gets corrupted and the Xbox can’t load the file. By going to properties and changing the filename we can simply give it a new name the Xbox rewrites and new header with a new footer, with the data from the old file under a new name, and saves it to a new memory location. Effectively repairing the damaged file info, and allowing you to open the file under the new name.
Hope this helps. Please post here if you replicate the solve.
Thanks. Keep your head down.
