Forge Oh The Possibilities (First Impressions)

Halo 5 forge is robust, feature full, and adds endless possibilities for future expansion.

So I wanted to wait until I experienced forge more in-depth before posting my opinions on the forums. When I first loaded up forge on Parallax, I felt overawed by all the features and controls. But after a couple hours of trying things out, familiarizing myself with the new objects, scripting and controls. I came to the realization that with forge and further DLC/Updates the Possibilities could become endless.

As of now forge kinda feels like a “arena map builder” we don’t have many options for custom games. Sure we can build whatever we want but without the gametypes to support our creations were limited. As many of you know in past halo games, it was the custom gametypes the community came up that drove our creativity in forge. From Zombies, Grifball, Racing, VIP, and may other made from other gametypes like Oddball, VIP, King of the Hill, Ect. I have no doubt 343i will be adding more gametypes in the feature but until then I feel a little limited by the lack of gametypes.

Some Ideas I came up with:

Escape Plan:
Working with what we have at the moment. I came up with this custom game based off Break Out (would prefer to use VIP). One team must interact with objects on the map to progress the flag further threw sections of the map or to either eliminate the opposing team. Using scripting you could have players interact with many objects and in different ways to open a doors, lower shield, lower a bridge, spawn a teleporter ect to progress threw different sections.

Maze Runner Maps:
With the scripting you could pretty much create a map that is consistently morphing base on time, state, or multiple conditions.

I have tested out this idea with dynamic object spawn/despawn, rotating, moving objects based on interaction with many objects and was very impressed with the possibilities. One of my test I used a bridge to span a gap with two interactive panels on each end, on one side the panel would lower the bridge and from the other raise it. Another test I created a prison cells with shield walls that would spawn and despawn based of the position of a toggle.

Can’t wait to see what the community comes up with and what future DLC 343i has planned.

For forge updates, I would also like to see weapon and vehicle variants

Don’t forget pre made structures! It was pretty tough to figure out how I should make a base. Perhaps the armory and the garage from war zone? They did mention they got a lot of their items from that.
