We had a Object Limit of 1600 in Halo 5 - at least on Paper. The closer you got the Limit, the more Bugs & Framerate Drops appeared and Objects in the Distance would start to vanish. 1400-1500 was a more safe Bet.
If I’m not mistaken, talking about Leaks is not allowed here. So please keep that in mind.
I’m not an expert in terms of Technical Limitations and I’ll admit that. I really hope that the Series X or a decent PC can benefit from more Objects, if that makes a difference.
As someone who is familiar with Objects, Scripts etc. and how much it takes to build a decent looking Map, I really hope that the Object Limit this time around is over 10k.
1600 was a totally acceptable number for it’s time in H5 and good Maps & Custom Games came out of it - but just thinking about the Stuff you could do with 10k+ objects will be on a whole new level.
Of course we don’t know if Object Scaling (especially on regular Blocks) is a thing in Halo Infinite’s Forge - if so, the number wouldn’t need to be that high.
We will be lucky if there is enough budget to make the maps we currently have, which are very basic. I wouldn’t be shocked if the limit isn’t the issue, but the stability is extremely low. I imagine based on Infinite being how it has been, you’ll randomly crash and lose your save, possibly often
Even if it is addressed, BTB took 3 months to fix, and there is not a word on fixing the current crashing and desync issues. They keep hosting HCS regardless to these happening. If Forge has issues, you can bet it won’t get fixed for 6 months.
Based on Campaign saves corrupting and loading quick saves also corrupting, loading the wrong location and mission, missing collected items, I imagine even saving every minute won’t guarantee your safety
Can’t wait for Forge. If it improves on what we got for Halo 5 it is going to be awesome.
As for the actual budget. Don’t know.
Seeing as it’s been developed in conjunction with the new engine I would imagine it will have a bigger budget. Or at the very least cope better with a maximum budget of objects.
But it’s the scripting that I’m looking forward to the most.
I need some games for our group to play. We have a wide range of skills so I need some ability to apply handicaps. Hopefully Infinite gives me the tools I need.
And I would love to set up a game where we can have uneven numbers. eg. 5 v 4, but only have 4 v 4 on the field (the extra player is rotated in on each death).
Now that you said that, I can see that actually happening, and I can see how a hell of a lot of players are going to be really pissed off.
The only way I see dealing with this is to save more offer then we normally would. The game has only crashed on me one time, but then again I don’t play as often as some do. The thing is, the game crashes a lot for some players.
Exactly - especially in terms of regular Blocks. If I’m not mistaken the largest Block in Halo 5 was 128M. So, just by building simple Bases / Towers you had to waste hundreds of Objects. Making things pretty was impossible, at least on BTB Maps.
It would really help so much if you could lengthen simple Blocks.
unlimited. you will be able to recycle your budget if youre creative enough and if 334 allows light building scripts in game. there might even be a feature where you load seamlessly from map to map. for example, you get in an elevator and when you get out, you are on a completely different map that loaded in when you were in the elevator. If the game has this, people could probably create a full campaign
Considering how bare bones the current maps are, I’d be surprised if its much bigger than Halo 5’s budget. I’ll even be surprised if Forge mode works on day 1 considering that cuatoms still barely work 3 months later.
I remember the days in Halo: Reach when people would mod maps to contain like 1,000 of each item or something like that. It was wild but it was also super buggy and laggy.
Forge is something that has come a long way and it just gets better and better each time. With Halo 5’s technical limitations being what they were, I’m hoping that Infinite’s Forge takes the leap where the previous games took mere steps.
Mind you, I won’t be disappointed if it’s only a slight step up from 5 seeing as I don’t have the patience to Forge (lots of ideas, the patience of a typical ADHD person lol). But I always love seeing what creations the Forge community comes up with.
