Forge Maps In MM, And My Proposed Solution.

Hey everyone vVvDARK WOLFvVv here! Alrighty, I am gonna give my 2 cents on the Player made forge maps in Halo 4’s Multiplayer Matchmaking. And my proposed solution for said Maps (In case you couldnt tell I have a problem).

Let me just start by saying that I have absolutely no problem with the forge maps, They are cool looking and functional for multiple game types, and that takes some creative skill. I have made many maps on Halo Reach and one in Halo 4. But in my opinion they just dont belong in Multiplayer Matchmaking.

The pre-made forge maps that 343i shipped with the game would be the most I would personally prefer out of the forge area, and the forge test playlist is stomach-able. But having them in the other playlists is a problem for me, partly because of the frame-rate lag i get from them, but mostly I really do like the maps that 343i shipped out, and I do like the DLC maps.

But the playlists are littered with Player made maps and I never get to play what was given by 343i because 95% of the time I get 3/3 voting options being forge maps, another 3% its 2/3 and the remaining 2% i get lucky with 1/3 or 0/3 maps being forge.

And I have seen a lot of people getting irritated by never getting to play the maps 343i gave us.

Now, on to my Proposed solution for this

I propose that in custom games, there is an option introduced that allows you a multiplayer matchmaking style search where you get put into a game of random people for a custom game (host choosing the map and gametype of course)

And how will these custom games get started you may ask? well I have figured that out too!

Also have a separate option for “host a game”, where a person chooses his map and game type and then once he has done that, he is put into the random search pool and people can randomly join his game before it starts. I have seen this done implemented in many other games and it works quite well.

You may also be asking what about J.I.P?

For that I propose that no one can join once the time limit has passed half, or once the losing team has gotten to half the points required to win.

This, in my opinion, would allow for more variety in the creative mind that is the Halo Community. And also allow for people that enjoy the Stock maps and DLC maps to enjoy them in Multiplayer Matchmaking.

Thank you all for your time, I appreciate it.

Lets try to get 343i to see this!

SEE Y’ALL STARSIDE!!

There are certain aspects of the idea I like and dislike.

I like the idea of being able to search and host custom games without having the bother of inviting people. However matchmaking would be very dull. Very rarely do you find players with DLC content in MM (not that you would want to play some of the DLC maps). This leaves you to about 4-5 maps per playlist. Of the maps shipped on the disk, I think I like Exile, Haven, Abandon and Complex (for Action sack only :3). Obviously this is my personal preference, but I am sure others share my hate for maps such as Solcae.

Another problem with your hosting feature is that it would not be very competitive. I could make a real crappy map and host a game on it.

I like the forge maps in MM. I see the problems they cause with split screen, but maybe that could be fixed with a few searching restrictions. Split Screen players and guests must search for players of a low CSR and forge maps must not come up. The fact is that Halo 4 shipped with some real sucky maps. I love the forge maps, they are balanced and a blast to play on. However I would like to see less of them.

hmm… i see your point about the sucky maps… i suppose an option to “dislike” a map so that it decreases the likelihood of them getting paired into a game with it could be implemented as well… didnt think about that, thanks for the input

I think that players should be allowed to define their own search restrictions. Before the forge map proliferation my time on infinity slayer looked like this:

Haven
Haven
Haven
Haven
Abandon
Haven
Haven
Haven
Haven
Haven
Solace
Haven
Haven, etc, etc, etc…

I think it would be great if a player could join a playlist but also impose search restrictions by map and game type (example: I select Adrift and Solace as preferred maps with Slayer Pro as a preferred gametype. The search may take longer, but I’m increasing the odds of playing a game I’m in the mood for rather than being subject to mob mentality in the voting system).

With this system, 343i could still feature user created maps and player would have the opportunity to play them at their leisure rather than having the maps forced upon them.

my time on halo is usually quite the opposite unless i play btb

I personally believe there has to be a balance between the two. Obviously all people aren’t going to like the same maps. I personally dislike many of the forge maps used in Big Team, but I could stomach playing them every other game as a compromise. I believe the playlists have been over saturated with forge maps.

Putting it simply, there should be a balance with forge/non-forge maps, which I believe is not currently enacted.

the maps i cant stand are the remakes of past halo maps, for instance Shutout… a remake of Halo 3’s Blackout… has been remade through halo reach and halo 4, good map, but just bland to play on anymore. which is an other part of the reason i proposed custom game search, as it were
