Forge Maps Devalues Reach

I don’t know if this goes for everyone, but I hate Forge maps and Forge remakes of previous maps. the quality is hard on the eyes, now I’m a Designer myself (Graphic Designer have you know) I love the actual hard work that goes into the “real” maps.

Does anyone think the same as me? please let me know in the comments, and Thanks!

Halo 4 needs to be a little less Forge central next time around, also there needs to be a playlist for Elites- possibly called “Elite Slayer” If I could play as an Elite on a normal map without equipment… I would live in Halo

Yep, seeing maps made on forge over and over with all the gray was rather disappointing… I don’t know if Bungie just got lazy, thought that was better or what, but…

A better idea would be for them to give us multiple canvases with distinct palettes, to prevent maps’ aesthetics from growing as stale as they have in Reach.

As it stands, Forge allows the community to express their creativity in-game, and to do so in a manner that adds variety to the game and extends the game’s lifespan. It also allows us to improve upon the design techniques employed by the developers: when designing maps, the community has the advantage of hindsight. While “seas of grey” may grow somewhat dull after a while, the problem is not nearly large enough to invalidate the benefits that Forge offers. If anything, the game needs to be more Forge-centric (and part of that would be offering more aesthetic options for Forgers).

I can say with complete certainty that were it not for Forge, Halo 3 wouldn’t have remained active for as long as it did, and Halo: Reach would be a ghost town right now.

I think there just should be much fewer Forge maps in Matchmaking.

If forge maps are going to be put in matchmaking, then they need to be the absolute best at least 3 should be in mm IMO. The rest of community maps should be in a double exp playlist or something once in a while but that’s it.

I think that 343 should choose a collection of Forge maps and have the community vote on which ones make it into MM.

Personally, I liked Halo 3 primitive Forge compared to the new one, just simply for the ease of use.

I don’t like how there’s no actual Forerunner maps, but just Forge maps that are basically lazy Forerunner maps. I think there should be more vareity then just the metallic peices.

The main idea is really to pack all Community designed maps in one whole seperate playlist…PLEASE! for my sanity

And that’s great, for people who want to seek that stuff out. But I personally wouldn’t mind NEVER encountering a forge map.

Great reply. I can agree. Halo needs forge, but it needs a new look and feel this time. It should also have all sorts of DLC. No forge world 2.0, but more maps! If there is forge 2.0 then it should have better relative locations to design in and the ability to be able to visit or travel over vast locations of Halo or Earth and more.

Yeah, it’s obvious Bungie was either completely lazy or running out of time when designing those disgusting grey items that make every map horrible. More variety and colour in Halo 4 Forge would be appreciated like Halo 3.

I think there should be a Forge world… It made a completely new experience for me and my friends. Hiding in caves in the Canyon when the enemy team could be kilometres away at the island. It takes ages to travel from one end to the other and I really like that. They should definitely have Forge Desert or something in Halo 4 big or bigger than Forge world.

Add snow, ice, grass, desert and forerunner canvases and forge will be ok. Also making it so we can download forge items just in case 343i doesn’t have the time to include in lauch.

I don’t believe that Forge maps should be part of the release maps, but they should be added over time to stop things from becoming stale. As DavidJCobb mentioned, a variety of different palettes would prevent the blandness that became so common in Reach.

Forge maps are what I dislike about Reach the most. It’s fine if Forge maps simply complement the original maps; in Reach, though, it’s nothing but Forge maps.

It’s not just the boring color that makes Forge maps bad. Most of them aren’t fun to play on, and it seems like you’re playing on the same map over and over and over. Honestly, Forge maps in matchmaking takes away from the original maps.
