We need both types Old and New! As soon as we get forge I’m looking forward to making some kool maps: IE: “Diamondback” From Halo Online, Some Unreal Tournament Maps like “Facing Worlds” and “Raindance” and “Katabatic” maps from Tribes Ascend.
It will take me some time to figure our how to do some scripting in my maps. But it will get done. I figured it out Halo 5 Forge I guess I can figure out Halo Infinite Forge!
I saw someone made the Infection game mode from scratch in Forge programming, because 343 still hasn’t added it, so if we will have Custom Infection with adjustable settings Day 1 Forge, I want to see alllll the old classic Infection maps and fat kid maps
I have zero faith in 343’s ability to create new maps, and new forge maps only get accepted for matchmaking if they’re symmetrical 2 base 2 tower layout. I’d much rather have remakes for asymms like Chill Out, Damnation, Guardian, Lockout etc.
Infinite doesn’t really need too many 4v4 maps, it already a solid amount of good ones.
What I think they SHOULD do is remake older BTB maps, tons of maps have basically never been remade and this would be the time for 343i to flex Forge mode’s new powers.
If we’re being honest there is a high likelihood that the maps just end up being trash, then we’re forced to play subpar maps for months on end. We have absolutely saw some great Forge maps over the years, but we have also seen lots of trash tier maps that regular Forgers would be ashamed to have been in matchmaking.
Alongside a solid custom browser - we need some sort of pathway for community maps and game types to make it into regular rotation.
Competitions would be fun. So when Infection is released then 343 hold a comp to find the top 5 community infection maps. Part of this should involve advice from 343 themselves about improving spawns and sightlines etc.
You could do the same thing with re-imagining of classic maps.
Game modes will be harder. Vetting scripts for errors etc won’t be easy. But there still needs to be a way to showcase the more popular ones.
I only want old maps if they’re reasonably balanced for Halo Infinite.
A lot of the old maps had a lot of balancing flaws in them, exp the original two games. As games moved forward quality did improve Halo 3, never played 4 or 5 so cannot speak about them. I’m sure there were ones that can be salvaged though for Halo Infinite don’t get me wrong, hopefully with minimal change to keep the general feel of the map the same.
The unfortunate thing is that any remade map via Forge added to matchmaking will probably mean that a dev made version will not be developed. I just hope they choose the right ones. I would very much like dev made remakes at some point.
This is why we need our “OWN DEDICATED SERVER SOFTWARE!” like we had for Halo Combat Evolved and Halo CE and Halo 2. I don’t like having to rely on those MS Azure Game Servers. Period!
If rumors are true more than two weapons can be held so, maybe adding some movement speed, have OS or half OS shields, increase explosion bounce back and tweaking how some guns operate, like say giving the bulldog an alt fire that launches a spike grenade to mimic the flak canon… just thinking out loud at the moment but there’s potential for a decent clone or hybrid. I’d settle for just a map. A nood to the game that made me an fps die hard would make me smile.
Me too!! But as you know the UT maps has faster movement and I like that. IMHO every since halo was released the movement has been kinda slow. I think that UT Facing Worlds would look awesome with forge. The scaling of objects to be able to make them bigger will make that map easier to make since Facing Worlds buildings are so very large. The only hard part is trying to figure out the rotating asteroids!
I just wish we could carry the the flag on our backs like most Capture The Flag Games from other game developers have done in the past!
very interested in seeing both, especially with this forge system looking as good as it does… old maps would be nice… but new maps could add some unique gameplay variety… i would be ok with either but realistically old maps would make the most sense at launch… if not for the nostalgic sense, or gamplay,… to show off how good old maps can be made in forge… excited… but hesitant… i was excited for launch day 2… that wore off after a month… if there are regular playlist shuffles… ACTION SACK for gods sake… and nice maps i think Chief will come out of cryo
