So, I’ve been forging for a little while in Halo: Infinite and noticed that the Magnets are not always working. It’s became a bit of a problem now that I got a large structure going on and can’t always just pull pieces away from it to fix it.
I have a game clip showing exactly what I mean. It refused to attach in the way I wanted it to but moving the other piece and suddenly it works. Not exactly sure what’s causing this. It happens with both resized and non-resized objects. Also, prob important to know that I’m on X-box Series X.
Yeah, it’s been happening a lot lately with me and it’s REALLY frustrating. Tried a few work-arounds that others have been doing, such as inserting another object that snaps directly to your piece, grouping it, then snapping that to where you need to snap and ungrouping then deleting the temp object)… But even that doesn’t seem to work.
I really hope this is one of the first issues with Forge that are fixed. I like to make my maps with clean edges/corners and having pieces with light shining through into other rooms is tacky AF.
This is helpful for sure, but does not consistently fix the issue. It seems that, even if the magnet strength is on its max setting, the magnets just fail to work
I haven’t tested this yet, but to me it “feels” like the issue crops up most often with , as stated previously, objects that have been re-scaled, but also and especially objects that have been duplicated, rather than spawned in fresh from the list.
OP here, just adding on that I also found sometimes it’ll occur working with objects only at 45-degree angle. Which is mainly where you’d want to use magnets because cords don’t always mesh well.
I discovered that resized objects do indeed have a hard time with magnets. If you’re using a primitive block, for example, orientation matters when you resized it. Some sides have magnets, others do not. Instead of simply rotating the block to a desired orientation, you might have to switch some of the dimensions, to make it appear it was rotated, and this might help preserve magnets on the desired sides
Just as a general tip, I discovered that, if you’re working with a group of objects and click and drag to select that group (on PC), the last few blocks that were highlighted will likely be the only ones that continue to have magnets. So, whichever objects you want magnets to work on in a group, make sure they’re selected last while clicking and dragging to highlight
