Forge items you were surprised weren't available?

We all know that Forge was well loaded when Cartographer’s Gift landed back in December 2015, providing people with an accessible palette of shapes and props that allowed them to build impressive maps and environments. However, there was some items that I expected but were ultimately missing when it dropped. Now, I know the Forge team is an amazing bunch that is providing us with more items every content drop. I mean, look at the sneak peak for Memories of Reach! A corpse, stone textured walls, some sort of anomaly. I have no doubt that items that aren’t present would be added to the list down the line, but still, everyone has a prop or item they were expecting that didn’t make it during launch right?

For me, it was the absence of destructable shutters/stone walls. It was a thing that sort of associated itself with the Spartan Charge and Slam; A destructable piece of environment that opened shortcuts or hidden paths when slammed into. The absence of such a prop brought me down a bit, since I had a lot of fun ideas for it.

So, for ya’ll who love to use Forge, which MIA item(s) have surprised you?

Hopefully they add those Spartan Charge walls, it looks like we might get them because they’re taking a bunch of things from the campaign and adding them to Forge.

Those SC/GP walls, actually. Also, I’m sad there aren’t smaller ring pieces, and SCRIPTABLE KILL VOLUMES.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, we should have something like a trigger volume, like you can script them to do stuff when a player is inside them. I think H2A had them.

AAAAAHHHH HOW DID I FORGET THOSE.

Yeah those would be the best thing in the world.

It sucks that we’ve got to make pressure plates to have something similar to those. I want to make a Covenant map with doors that open when you get close… but I don’t trust pressure plates.

Trait zones and those old school covie shields.

Yeah, the lack of SC Walls was weird, since they bragged on that mechanic before the launch.
I was also surprised the see the removal of the entire “Buildings” tab. Didn’t even register it was gone for a while till I went looking for a piece that has been in every Forge prior to find it missing.

Two and one way shields that do not require teaaaams to walk through they screwed up gladiator

Tom French said on Twitter a while back that they are focusing on adding trigger volumes before trait zones.

That’s good to know, thanks Turb.

Yes to both of those. Smaller rings would of been fantastic for details and basketball maps. Scriptable kill volumes is also a must, since physical objects crushing a player doesn’t instantly kill.

Yes, trigger volumes would be a godsend to have back. Automatic doors would be so cool to see in Forged maps. As well as scripted events on maps, like elevators coming down, or areas locking off when passing a barrier.

Mmm, old school Covenant shields.

Another few things I’d like to see again would be weapon lockers, both UNSC and Covenant. Remember those from Halo 3? If they could, I’d love to see them make an option in the object to customize what weapon spawns in them. Though I don’t know if it’s even feasible.

I miss how easy forge was to use before, now it’s so complicated I don’t enjoy it as much as I used to :\

I miss the wooden pallet from prior games.

Once you get familiar with the controls, it is actually not difficult at all to work with.

You can make destructible walls… by spartan charging into unphased structures… probably. I wouldn’t be surprised if I was right… Who knows. Idk. I barely Forged.

Only Reach Forge Art. Yeh.

Yes, the wooden palette is also a classic that I miss. That was one of the few objects that floats on water.

It would “simulate” destruction, but it isn’t the same as the entire object being destroyed. Wooden palettes being smashed and breaking into pieces is different from several solid pieces falling over.

Wish List for Forge

  • Cherry Blossom Trees - Flowers (you see them in campaign, why not in forge?) - Lily Pads - Water Volumes - Water Fountains - Fancy statues (like those seen in Gears of War) - More game related decals (e.g. runner’s logo from Mirror’s edge, Gears of War logo, etc) - Birds and other small wildlife - More toys (Cortana plushy, Arbiter plushy, etc.)
