I remember the evolution from Halo 3’s Forge to Reach and being blown away by all that was added.
Forge in Halo 5 is technically superior to Reach, but I was really hoping for something… new. Something creative. AI? A total re-haul of the current systems copy/pasted from Reach. For serious map designers, I’m sure this rendition of Forge is awesome, but I was really hoping for something… fun. Cool new objects, AI (seriously, been dreaming of this since Halo 3, and Far Cry 3 had it’s own version of ‘forge’ with AI, so surely it can’t be too hard to add, right?), weather, and other things I can’t think of. Something surprising.
Personally Forge isn’t fun, and I was really hoping this was the game where it would be.
I kinda don’t like having to build EVERYTHING from scratch. Past Forges has premade structures like 3-story buildings, stairs, ect., and from what I’ve seen with this Forge, you have to build everything from pieces

I miss the old forge objects, honestly its a pain in the -Yoink- now. That and it makes it horribly difficult to remake classic maps that had their own forge pieces.

Maybe that was the whole point? Maybe they don’t want us to simply remake the old maps. And if the pieces were there does that mean they are planning on releasing remakes? hmmmm…
Even forge is now mainly for hardcore forgers. Lol. I remember back when I would just go on forge and mess around with some friends. Throw killballs at each other. Spawn in explosives and throw em at each other’s work. Super fun. Even forge isn’t casual friendly anymore.
You haven’t given it a chance. This forge was filled with stuff we’ve been wanting for years.
Item grouping ? Yep.
Crazy effects? Yep.
Large amounts of customization for objects? Yep.
Lots of unique items so maps can have different themes instead of all being grey forerunner crap? Yep
Ability to change the time of day? Yep
Ya’ll whine about not having AI’s? That’s the stuff petty children whine about.

Wow this is so true. I can’t play Forge easily. I have to learn the new controls, deal with the messiness of where the items are, and make my own structures from scratch. Forget that, I’d rather play Forge on Halo 3 or Reach.

which id how we play campaign on console offline and spawn ai in farcry and had firefight and play survival. You do realize that the ai has to be spawned and controlled by the console in engine right. they have these areas of activity (which is why ai only reacts when you r a certain distance from them). Forge should lets us have a big redball called marine squad. When u place the ball the marines move and act within it and respawn after a player set timer. Easy to do. Microsoft just wants people playing online and you know why
Forge isn’t meant for throwing kill balls at each other it is meant for making maps and mini-games to add to the length of the game and it does that amazingly.

I think some of you missed OP’s point. Halo 5 Forge is superior from the predecessors in pure technicality, but that’s about it. It has more objects to use, sure, but a lot of it is only to give the maps a different structure. I’m pretty sure blank color variants don’t necessarily make for a “unique” aesthetic. Mostly a repainted one.
To sum it up, Halo 5 Forge is meant for purely functional maps for regular gameplay. What’s missing is the exaggerated flair from older Forges. You only have 4 joke props which can hardly be applied into anything, especially with no grav hammer/ golf club at the current time. There are no gravity and trait zones to mix up gameplay in the middle of a match, and no killballs to be used like a boulder from Indiana Jones for the silly fun.
No matter how I look at it, the current Forge is purposed for functional gameplay, and no silly fun mini-games like before (Though I’d argue that previous games had the luxury of Armor Abilities to mix things up. With that gone Halo already lost a lot of crazy fun factors).
For the meantime, we’ll just have to wait for Forgers to create the classic fun custom maps (ala debris crash course, etc…). If we’re lucky we’ll get new options with the inevitable Grifball update.

As I said, it’s technically a better forge, but AI would be a great addition, this way two modes, Forge and Firefight are together. That would be incredible, don’t you think?

Far Cry 3…

Yeah, but wouldn’t it be nice if it also catered to us neaderthals who would enjoy blowing -Yoink- up?

My 50,000-word thesis on the subject will be out next week. But if that’s too much, the reason I don’t personally find it fun is because it doesn’t have AI or more silly elements like the ‘killball’ back in Reach. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as a lot of people can and do make great maps to play on, but for me, this forge was found wanting.

Why would you wanna remake an old map in Halo 5? They would play like absolute TRASH with the new mechanics! Not a single map can I think of where it would play well with the new mechanics other than a few BTB maps. Terminal Would be awesome in forge, but there are no original forge pieces from that map.
I’d love to see AI spawns to make firefight maps. But premade pieces make the maps feel constrained. It may take a bit longer to construct a map, but you can do soooo much this forge. It’d be nice if groups could be saved for use later on. * future update, please*
still, Rome wasn’t built in day, and nether was lockout

It doesn’t matter what you think of balance, Forge is our sandbox to make whatever we want. Regardless of what you or I think, removing pieces is stupid since they were used for a lot more than just remaking classic maps. Though I’m sure half the people in Forge just want to remake classic maps in Halo 5, hell the majority of the BTB maps they’ve given us so far are either straight remakes or maps heavily inspired by classic maps. No matter how you spin it, classic maps are a HUGE part of what Forgers are using the tool for.
As someone who is really into the nitty gritty of things like scripting and the fact the this forge is supported after launch does it make it like 3 to Reach kind of upgrade to me. I’m sorry you see it a different way, but we both have our priorities. After messing around with something like Far Cry’s editor I have to say I no longer care for AIs unless I have way more control over their pathing and scripting. Those tools will never be given to us on a console, so I’m pretty much over the concept of AIs in forge.
I like some of the things they did to Forge, like the color options and the expanded item list. But everything else? Hell no. They have done so much to it that now I feel itnis just overwhelming.
