Okay first let me start off by saying that i in know way discredit the purpose of this map or why it was released the way it is, that being said the map is not nearly on the same level as the levels designed by Bungie when they had control of the halo franchise. Yes it has its pros and cons but if you consider the disregard for interesting landscape or scenery, and the clearly copied and scaled islands we are supposed to build on.
I present you a list of things that appear in the map:
1.3 Main [small islands]
2.A large open sky box.that being there makes no difference considering the skybox is large in several other maps as well.
the map features the ability to forge inside of the islands, that is a misconception the only reason you are able to get inside of them is the lack of death barriers inside of the rock.In my opinion that is a poor level design.
The map also boasts some new objects. Boasts is a strong word to use for a 3 extra trees and 3 rocks all of which are badly textured and uninteresting.
The Outside scenery is very badly textured and looks as if it was just thrown in last minute.
The map Clearly was developed off the Ravine Map variant considering its color scheme is a defective version of its predecessor.
That being said its not all bad: the skybox is large and the water is blue. there isn’t much to do with this map except structure work and very little scenery type landscape incorporated in the maps.

I dunno I am sitting in forge Island right now and yeah it may just be some new trees and rocks and I HOPE Halo 5 can have a really robust forge world but I gotta admit: It’s pretty cool to spawn trees finally.
The Pro forgers out there are gunna be able to make some spectacular maps with this stuff an I will be looking at forge hub closely for some good maps.
I really hope we see some permanent forge island maps come into matchmaking one day.
I personally loved forge in halo reach and can attest to build some remarkable maps after using it for so long but after this last map i’m kinda just put off by the lack of effort in 343’s development team, it took almost 6 months to finish the file share system for the game. but on this subject the islands are small in comparison to other maps you are currently able to forge effectively on such as impact or erosion, and the islands themselves are flat and uninteresting. I know unexperianced forgers need a flat surface to build but for the more advanced users it kinda a sad sight for realistic looking maps that incorporate the islands into the map.
Looks like someone only makes ramps and other small things in forge. The forge community is so happy to have this. We have a huge island. It is not small at all. Trees. Something we wanted since Halo 3 and finally have. HUGE skybox and waist or lower you live water. Lots of open space for race tracks and some battleship maps. Flat grass land. We have had flat land in Halo 3 but it was never this large or had the lush grassy texture Forge Island has. The other flat maps were sand, snow, and metal. A green screen. To me and many others a giant green wall. To Machinima makers the greatest thing ever. Huge rocks. Custom made canyons. Don’t see a reason to complain. This is one of the few things 343 did right.
I really don’t know what people were expecting. It fits both of the needs that the forge community wants. Larger areas and flatter areas. It does both. That and we can finally forge trees.
My only issues are that the islands themselves aren’t even flat, and building anywhere near the edge of an island just makes the most disgusting shadows.
I don’t know how you can complain. You’ve just been given a FREE map that can be used to create a million other maps for FREE and then you can head over to custom games and try them out with your friends for FREE.
I know that I already have a ton of ideas of how I can use this new space for map making, and I find it disappointing that a large portion of the rest of the community has little to no creativity and would rather spend their time complaining about the flat space than building something on it so that it isn’t flat any more.

Because this free map can’t be used without making an area look like barf due to all of the shadows.
i have waited for this for so long, this is the map i always wanted. flat, big, no real theme. (no sarcasm) i friken ove this map! greeat job 343. (No sarcasm)

There is this fallacy that 343 made this wonderful gesture in making forge island free. Think about it, it would have been totaly pointless to charge for a new forging enviroment. I have a friend who forges but it’s not something I’ve really bothered with in a big way and as such, he would have bought FI but I wouldn’t have. The result being I can’t play or even look at his maps. What would have happened when community maps start appearing in MM? It would further split an already dwindling population.
343 did not give away forge island for free out of generosity, but out of necessity. It would not have worked any other way.
What surprises me, is that 343 actually realised this.
the map is just in my opinion boaring, i have zero problem forging jsut personally i enjoy a good amount of visual aspects that aren’t structure related.
Some people cannot be pleased, can they? Honestly, I love forge island. The new map features such as the Green Screen, new rock types, trees (which are AWESOME) and a few others make all the difference in my opinion. I just don’t get it though. Why can’t you just be happy with what you get. Let me put it to you this way…

So, be quiet, be grateful towards 343 for coming up with this awesome new map, be happy with what you get and above all, stop complaining!
