But it is overly complicated. Ive spent a couple hours in it since it came out and I honestly have to say its not as bad as people make it seem, but it is for certain way overly complicated and I can definitely see where people get intimidated by it. In fact when I first opened it I went “Holy **** what did I just walk into” Theres a few things that stood out the most to me like specific items to spawn like vehicles and weapons are actually much easier to get to and find. I don’t think they need to be under “tiers” but it kinda makes finding a specific weapon easier. There is a monumental amount of terrain and you can even put certain pieces of in game terrain down from the other forge maps and I think that’s awesome. With these good come some things that don’t make sense to me. First of the control are counter intuitive, Even after a few hours I still found myself pressing the wrong buttons when trying to do something and I felt like a 40 year old trying to hold a controller for the first time. I had to think about every button press before I did it and that should never be the case, period. Second, maybe I just haven’t found it, but why cant I just spin objects I want to turn instead of snapping them in 90 degrees to the left or right? Just spinning and object would have been much simpler theres no reason we shouldn’t have this feature. Third, why in the name of Odin are there so many selections for the SAME thing? Go into breakout section of forge right now and look at how many different options for ramps and walls here are that are the exact same thing just slightly wider each time. Theres no need for this. We can now geoform objects into each other, theres no need to have different widths of ramps. Walls are more understandable as if you are trying to cover a large area quicker I can get that but i still believe we don’t need that many options for the exact same object especially when you can just dupe the item next to it.
I think the new forge is great, for people who were already doing this in halo 3 and reach. However, i feel the everyday common person is going to be intimidated by it and just toss it to the side and complain they don’t get it. Well, I get it, I understand it but I wont be using because I do feel its too complicated and the amount of bugs in it frustrate me. Like come on sometimes it wont even let me move a damn object for no reason what so ever. It just decided it doesn’t want to move. Kudos to people who are able to use it, please bring us some awesome game types and maps in the future!
Not crapping on forge, but not saying its the greatest either.
