Forge is NOT improved. At all.

You can increase the amount of objects we have. You can increase the amount of canvases we have. You can add intricate, in-depth functionality and user-friendly scripting systems. What you absolutely cannot do, though, is make user-created content valuable to the community without offering a means for them to discover it. Content is only as valuable as it is discoverable. This is ‘Media 101 for Dummies.’

So no. Forge has not been improved. I haven’t played on any cool, new Forge maps, as has the vast majority of the community not even seen any cool Forge maps in any fashion. Forge is not finished. The most important, integral part of Forge has yet to be announced concretely. Mind you, back in 2007 (yes, almost a decade ago), we could download maps from the internet without even turning on an Xbox, and there was a community featured maps section in game. The same feature-set was also present way back in 2010, but much improved in nearly every regard. It’s important to note that these games were not 343-created - they pre-dated all of 343’s games - none of which included ANY of these features.

Forge is not improved. The point of Forge has been neglected. It is not a Firefight-like gamemode; you don’t just “Forge for fun.” Forge is designed to make content which you share, so please stop excusing 343. They have failed in this department for Halo 4, Halo: MCC (which includes a remake of a game that had these features), and Halo 5. That’s three games in a row that lack basic functionality we had way back in 2007 that makes Forge more than a gimmick. Because right now, Forge is a gimmick. You can make a shiny, new map - maybe it even plays well - but that’s it. Maybe 50 people will see it if it gains traction. Maybe 10 people will download it.

The recent update mentioned that they were working on an improved file browser. It is on they way at least. I find forge to be massively improved, but requires a little more leg work to get the maps which isn’t to bad.

A legitimate file browser would’ve made the HaloSwallower ‘make MCC in Forge’ contest so much easier to execute. The original submission deadline was supposed to be tomorrow, but I’m probably going to delay it to 1/31 since current file sharing system is so slowed down.

“Coming Soon” (features that should’ve been here at launch, will come late, and will lack much of the basic functionality you had a decade ago or more when it (or part of it) finally comes out!) - 343 Industries’ motto

You have to understand that you, a forum-goer, are an extreme minority in the Halo community. The vast majority of Halo users turn on their Xbox and see what’s in the game, and that’s it They play what they see. The vast, overwhelming majority of users will never see any maps other than those in their friends’ File Shares, and their friends are extremely statistically unlikely to have any cool maps in theirs due to this stunted system. This is the opposite of the truth in Halo 3 and Reach.

File sharing is horrible and inconvenient for passionate Halo users like you and I. File sharing is non-existent for most, though.

Are you serious? Halo 5’s Forge has produced some of the best maps I’ve seen from this franchise. And… yeah, most people that I know of this community have indeed played on some really cool maps, including remakes of older maps and obstacle course maps.

343 step up

… well, I wouldn’t say Forge hasn’t been improved, but the file browser and file share both need serious work.

Did I ever imply that Forge has not produced the best maps yet? No. I said that regardless of that, it’s meaningless because the content is not discoverable at large.

Linking a search for Forge maps in Halo 5 is pretty meaningless. Most people I know haven’t played on any custom maps. Is my anecdotal evidence any more meaningful than yours is? No. The fact is that most players statistically do not go outside of the game to search for information and content. You’re objectively wrong. It would be a statistical miracle for “most” players to have played on maps when the only way to discover them is to find them in outside media which the majority of players do not look at.
