Forge Ideas [Not Official H5 Forge Mechanics]

Hey everyone, vVvDARK WOLFvVv is back! (Notoriously long posts included! And still no TL;DR’s!) So, some of you may remember pre-Halo 4 where I had 3 POSTS worth of suggestions for forge options available from the game. Well, needless to say, none of the suggestions made the cut. I would however like to put these suggestions out to the community again and see what kind of feedback I get. And just like before these are simply ideas, and I figure, Next Gen forge deserves Next Gen options! So here we go!

Pieces

  1. I would like to see Doors that Function. I would also like to see these doors in covenant, forerunner, and human form, so I can make my maps (and in some cases bases) clearly diverse from one another.

A. Button activated doors

B. Motion activated doors

  1. Natural Pieces, I’d like to see these not only in the game, but have different styles of each.

A. Rocks

B. Trees [alive/dead]

C. Bushes [alive/dead]

D. Water (spreads once you place)

E. Lava (spreads once you place)

  1. I would also like to see wildlife & npc - non aggressive AI constructs like in Halo 3. This is something that was seriously lacking in forge, And in many maps throughout Halo.

A. H3’s construct “sentinel builders”

B. Land animals such as deer, moa, etc., that move randomly on land in a set radius on your map (if alive). [Dead, Alive, or roadkill]

C. Flying animals that fly randomly within a set radius on your map (if alive). [Dead/alive]

D. Water animals that swim randomly in water areas in a set radius on your map(if alive). (Dead/Alive)

E. Amphibious animals that can move randomly anywhere between water and land (if alive). [dead, alive, or roadkill]

*[all these animals ACT like animals would, and can be killed if alive and eventually respawn, you can also set the radius that they move within]

  1. pre-broken/destroyed vehicles I feel would ad a bit of extra effect and realism to the game, present the look of an actual battlefield situation.

A. Warthog (turret still usable)

B. Wraith & Scorpion

C. Falcon/Hornet

D. Banshee

Textures, Weather, And Special Effects

  1. I would definitely like to see different weather conditions that would make the persons view of the battlefield less clear. These weather conditions would not have to cover the entire map and could actually move in a random direction within a radius that you set, you can also set the severity of these conditions and how much of the map they actually cover. They will also affect your natural terrain and how the wildlife acts. Some weather conditions can randomly clear out to provide a clear sky

A. Rain

B. Thunder/Lightning Storm

C. Snow

D. Flash Floods

E. Fog

F. Volcanic Eruptions

G. Sand Storm

H. Wind storm

  1. Day/Night cycles are something i always tried to accomplish in forge, but could never get to work due to the fact that there was always a sun in forge world. So i think you should have a tool that lets you choose to set weather or not it is day or night, or choose to simply let it go through a “natural cycle”.

A. Day

B. Dawn

C. Night

D. Dusk

E. Full Moon

F. New Moon

G. Solar Eclipse

H. Lunar Eclipse

  1. Piece textures are also something that was majorly lacking in halo reach’s forge. i would like to see pieces that aren’t all forerunner grey. I would also like to see the pieces affected by weather. (EX: if it is snowing, the pieces are covered in snow)

A. Snow covered pieces

B. Dirt Covered Pieces

C. Water Covered Pieces.

  1. I would also like to have the option to put worn roads from being driven over by vehicles with wheels to also give the effect that there has been a prolonged battlefield situation taking place.

A. Warthog tire marks

B. Mongoose tire marks

C. Scorpion Tank tread marks

  1. I would also like morphable terrain so that the bases appear to have been set on a duh out foundation or to dig a basement for your base or to make tunnels through a mountain.

A. Excavation sites

B. Tunnels

C. Basements for bases

D. Under Ground Caverns

More Pieces!

  1. Again With moving and functional pieces! id like to see many of these.

A. An idea that some one else suggested, Drawbridges, and destructible bridges!

B. Spinning cooling fans (of various sizes, species types, and shapes) these of course are capable of killing who ever walks into them!

C. Generators (spinning ones like in last resort in H3 or humming shaking ones ones like in powerhouse)

D. dumpsters you can actually open/close without having to beat them or blow them up (good hiding spots but can very easily splatter you when enough force is exerted onto them)

E. steel cables/energy/light beams that attach to pieces that are set to normal sway at the bottom if disturbed. (or even better a steel/energy/light equivalent of a rope bridge that sways and bends and warps as you walk across it)

  1. More pre destroyed/crashed pieces! these are fun!

A. Crashed Pelican (Which there was at least one of some place in each Halo Installment)

B. Crashed Spirit (The tuning fork shaped covenant dropship) and a crashed Phantom dropship

C. Cashed Seraph, Sabre, & Longsword

  1. More Road and trail Pieces

A. Actual road pieces with street lights so you can build “towns” or “highways”

B. Trails where the anti-grav tech from Covenant Vehicles pushes aside what ever is underneath. (I.E. Pushed aside dirt/dust/snow or parted grass.)

Vehicles!

I would like to see all vehicles and vehicle variants (from campaign and Multiplayer alike) be in the new forge, seeing as the infinity’s training room can create anything right? and all the vehicles they have used/encountered would be recorded into the ships data log right?

  1. Human Vehicles! These especially were seriously lacking in Halo Reach’s forge!

A. All Falcon Variants (Grenade And Mini-gun turret, both with the forward mounted gun)

B. The Hornet (with missiles of course)

C. All Warthog Variants (Mini-gun, Gauss, Rocket, And H3’s Troop Transport)

D. The Classic and New mongooses

E. Scorpion

F. Elephant & Mammoth[?]

G. Pelican

H. Sabres, Longswords

I. The open bed truck From “winter contingency” so people can stand on the back of the vehicle with a turret they ripped off or just stand on the back like they would a mongoose, and there is a third passenger seat.

J. The forklift. Because, well, why not!? (could place in halo 3 but couldn’t drive)

K. The Civilian Semi Trucks (with and without trailers) and the Delivery vehicles (both of which are in Pillar of Autumn mission in Halo: Reach) [could place in halo 3, but couldn’t drive]

L. A Motorcycle! (Inspired by The guys at rooster teeth in Season 9 of RvB)

M. Civilian cars & Ambulances (like in ODST, only driveable!)

N. And all the Human vehicles from Halo Wars (I do not know what all of them are since I never played Halo Wars)

  1. Covenant Vehicles. These weren’t lacking quite as badly seeing as There weren’t many variants of covenant vehicles to begin with. But I will still Put in what I would like to see.

A. The Brute Chopper

B. All Banshee Variants (Standard & The Inverted-Wing Banshee Flier)

C. Scarab

D. Spirit & Phantom Dropships

E. Seraph

F. Prowler (H3 Brute land vehicle) I loved how tough that thing was! Its only weak spot was that you couldn’t fire the plasma cannon without a gunner

G. Revenant, only you need a person in the passenger seat whom will man the gun so that while the driver has twin plasma cannons on the front so that it becomes a bit more of a teamwork vehicle

H. All Wraith variants (Mortar & Anti-Air Fuel rod)

I. Cant forget the Ghost!

J. And all the Covenant vehicles from Halo Wars (I don’t know what they all are since I never played Halo Wars)

Weapons!

I would like to see all weapons return, because again. the infinity can make anything right? and all the recorded weapons would be in the ships data log right?

  1. Human Weapons! The options for these were nothing short of spectacular! But there was still more I wished to see after reading Some of the halo books. (I’ve read Fall of reach through Ghosts of onyx, gonna be reading contact harvest soon)

A. The option of a 60 Clip size or a 32 clip size to resemble the different AR Models

B. A BR WITHOUT its smart-scope (seen on cover of Ghosts of Onyx

C. Rebel Weapons! (I.E. The confetti maker from Ghosts of Onyx)

D. H3’s Mini-gun turret.

  1. Covenant Weapons, These I feel were a bit lacking in some games, but still came strong in reach. There is nothing I can really wish for from the covenant side of the weapon tree because it was all implemented at least once. But I will list what I want to return!

A. The Brute Shot

B. Plasma Launcher

C. Fuel rod (of course)

D. H3/4’s Beam Rifle

E. The Plasma Cannon (Covie turret)

F. Needle Rifle

Piece Options

More Piece Options. These are always fun! More Functional and semi-functional pieces! these seemed to get the most recognition so I figured id pitch some more

  1. More functional pieces. The motion and button activated piece ideas are near never ending. I wish could think of them all! My brain would eventually explode to over exposure to pure awesomeness!

A. Shudders. In H3 there was a map that had shudders, but once they opened they couldn’t close. so my suggestion is bring shudders back, only make them so they can be opened and closed at will.

B. More than just grav-lifts. I liked the Air propelled lifts that they had in reach, it added a bit more authenticity to the maps. so suggest that there be more than just gravity lifts.

C. as a semi-funtional piece, I would like to see breakable glass. and of course this glass could have different thicknesses from regular easy to break glass, all the way up to our ever-popular invulnerable forerunner glass.

Textures, skins, and colors

Ok, I got to thinking, different skins are cool right? and EVERYONE wants a color palette to color their pieces so that they all are not that dull Forerunner grey color. I am about to touch base on both of these.

  1. Skins, I listed a few skins for pieces that react per weather condition. so i figured id make a few more, and maybe a skin or two that doesn’t have to do with the weather condition all the time.

A. I listed the option for a tool digging for excavation or simply a land warp tool, I also listed lava as something that spreads once you place it. which leads to making volcanoes and volcanoes erupt Right? So my suggestion is volcano ash from a recent volcanic eruption.

B. And there Is also an idea for like the muck at the bottom of a piece if you make a swampy area.

C. Also vine covered pieces like for if you make a jungle area.

D. And you can color these skins to have what ever look you like, say you want a forest to look all like autumn, you can color leaves and vines and trees and such to fit an autumn theme.

  1. Textures. More textured pieces! from flooring to walls to what ever.

A. leaf and plant trails (from clear to rough.)

B. Bullet hole, explosion, and sword slashed covered walls (can be set to be randomly generated per piece)

Vehicle Coloring

One of my favorite things in Halo Reach was the ability to color certain vehicles. (the mongoose and the base of the shade turret) but i would like to see vehicle coloring for all of the vehicles! or at least the human ones!

  1. Human Vehicle Coloring

A. Give the hog the same coloring capabilities as the mongoose

B. Give the scorpion at least the choices between forest green, brown, or gunmetal grey.

C. Keep the mongoose with its awesome array of color options!

D. Give the flying vehicles a secondary color

  1. Covenant Vehicle Coloring

A. Give all the covenant vehicles a minimum choice of the blue, purple, and the red from the revenant.

Or if you are partial to full color customization, give the people the ability to personalize their preferred vehicle colors of their map with a primary and secondary color.

Expansiveness of forge world!

Saving the best for last! This is what I’m assuming you were all waiting for me to talk about!

  1. For those who have played Metroid Prime, you all remember the world map right? different regions of the planet you were on, most notably, chozo in metroid prime 1 had all the different areas. so my idea is that you have a forge world “world map” that allows you to travel in between different parts of forge world. for example going from a jungle or swampy area to say a frozen wasteland in the push of the button in your forge start menu. this would of course restrict your weather options, but leave a whole new world of possibilities. And save the trouble of separating it by map. here are my suggestions for regions.

A. An ocean region

B. A desert region

C. A snowy region.

D. A region filled with lava planes

E. A Jungle region

F. A swampy region

G. A mountainous region

H. Just a regular grassy region that has no restrictions to the possible weather.

I. A sky region

J. A post apocalyptic Region

K. A mining region

You can still of course use the excavation or “land warp” tool on any of these regions to create a look you want.

Thanks Halo Community!! Hope you enjoyed what you saw out of my 3 installments of forge ideas! those of you who have commented in my last two installments were really supportive! be sure to check out my other installments if you have any ideas, I might have already used them in a past installment!

ENJOY AND DISCUSS!

Maybe if I get enough ideas floatin’ around ill make a 4th installment and feature more community ideas!

See y’all starside!

As always feedback is greatly appreciated!

I apologize for any Misspells or typo’s, at the time that I typed this It was a lot to type and didn’t re-check anything.

Some good ideas but the only two things I definitely want in Forge are interactable objects (doors and windows like you said) and weather/time of day sliders. Everything else is secondary.

We’ve wanted these things since Halo 3. Time to deliver.

Please avoid making multiple topics with similar subjects. All your posts were about changes to forge, so I have combined them into a single topic.

I appologize, I had made these same posts pre-halo 4, and due to the text limit I made it 3 different posts and I also didnt want to overwhelm people with putting it all in one spot.

But to keep on track with the topic of the OP(s), I would like to start hearing feedback about my ideas now

I do believe I mentioned Weather and daylight cycles, if not in the first post, then later posts. But thank you for your feed back

I didn’t think that this was possible.

OnT
Nice ideas for now!
I suggest visiting Petetheduck.com for more inspiration because he made a list comprised of community feedback.

Thank you for the feed back, I really appreciate it, some of these ideas did in fact come from other players back in… 2012? pre halo 4 launch and people loved them (obviously, otherwise i would have only made one post lol) so i just kept making more posts and featuring user suggestions and tried to give credit where credit was due. if I had recording equipment i would totally make a youtube video of my suggestions. see how the community at large takes it. but none the less thank you, and i have seen petetheduck, he is awesome, i doubt he will see this but shout out to him lol

Fair enough, but we do try to keep the forums as clean as possible. I merely meant it as a “heads up” for the future.

Thank you for the heads up. I appreciate it

On a separate note, what do you think of my ideas? And could you get them to the eyes of others involved with the game? It’d be a dream come true to get some real company feed back on a lowly gamers ideas

For anyone reading my first three posts, I apologize for the openers/closers on each post, as well as the repeat posts, for as was mentioned earlier in thread, these were once 3 separate posts, I am currently trying to edit out anything that is restricting the flow of the post.

Back to topic on hand however, feedback on my ideas would be greatly appreciated and I am confident that these are ideas that would be worthy of the halo name and if you go into my original posts (which I will link to upon request) there were many that agreed with these sentiments. So please at least help me keep recognition for this up.

I dont mean to boost my own post, but I REALLY want to get my ideas out there and want some good feedback on my ideas! I know I am not the only one that thinks that forge could be something WAY MORE than it is. please give some feedback on this.

Great ideas! The most important thing to me is that they provide an excellent canvas, drastically increase the number of objects allowed at one time, and have a color scheme that doesn’t make me sick to look at for too long. I love forge and would be absolutely thrilled to be able to make more intricate and detailed maps.

I think you should think more about why you want those things in the first place. An example would be to recount how you would work extra hard to make a common needed item when you see how the developers could remove all the need for that unnecessary labor by just creating a piece that copies the intention of your complex creation and puts it all into one or two pieces.
I remember back in Halo 3 I would forge a lot and made some really good maps. The common thing I always spent time with was doors and some kind of switch that would lead to something happening. I worked around it by using long trails of fusion coils, delayed respawn times for certain items, and destructible pieces combined with items susceptible to game physics to get the effect I wanted.

The truth is that what most people want stems from the common problem of “we use up all our pieces and ‘money’ on creating contraptions that only make up a small portion of what we need to make our map perfect, and are left with being able to produce small piece of our overall vision”

I know WHY I want them, and budget isn’t really the problem, I just want more variety in forge is all… and quite frankly more FORGE. lol

That’s a BIG list O.o"

A lot of it I can agree with. Actually, most of it. I still don’t think we’re to the point where having every weapon and every vehicle in the game is achievable. They are making a completely new engine, so maybe on the next Halo game once all the key pieces have been laid?

maybe  but i figure since we are FINALLY breaking into next gen halo, that the forge deserves a major face lift to appease to the creativity of people.

I also want to point out that i fixed my posts and so they dont look like they are 3 seperate posts any more.
