What gives? After several seconds of the golf ball moving from its initial spawn point, it will disappear. The only nice thing about it is they will respawn on their own after disappearing if you set a respawn time on them (unlike Reach). The problem here though is that in most cases, you don’t want that golf ball to disappear, especially when you try and utilize it for a gametype.
I love the novelty of having an auto ball returning system but that’s no longer possible as the ball disappears before it can even complete a cycle through the auto loader. I don’t know if I’m just missing an option that allows golf balls to remain on the map forever or if it’s just in the coding that they will disappear and there’s no way of fixing it.
I’ve tried setting it to no respawns…To 20 second respawns…To 180 second respawns…Max item count…Min item count… None of these options do anything. The ball still disappears after the same period of time (about 20-30 seconds). I would love some insight if possible for anyone that knows more about this. I’ve got plenty of map ideas (achievement horse related) and a lot of them involve using a golf ball.
I know this is a super old thread, but I’m gonna bump it anyways because this problem is currently preventing me from finishing a map. I understand this is a small problem in the grand scheme of things, but as I said, it’s preventing me from finishing a map. My map revolves around a golf ball, and about 30 or so seconds after it gets moved from its spawn, it disappears. It’s really frustrating. If anyone knows a fix to this (if there is one), I’m all ears. Thanks in advance!
i am currently having the same problem for a golf map all i can do to not despawn the ball is run in behind it in forge mode but its annoying since i want to do a spiral and cross the gap on impact but my ball dosnt make it down the spiral in 30 s please 343 help us out
Also having the same problem on a Rube Goldberg-type Achievement Horse map. Please, has anyone figured out a solution to this problem? Or 343 a way to fix this seeming glitch?
This is probably a problem with the games clean up scripts removing things so quickly. What is causing this is what is also causing the blown-up vehicles, dead bodys, dropped weapons and other things to disappear so fast.
This probably can’t be fixed which is a bummer… The updating system in H4 is a lot different from Reach though so it may be possible. (IF 343 decides to make a proper patch and fix it). The reason its even like this is because everything in H4 is really detailed, and that takes up a lot of power to process it all, so to make it easier on the console, things get removed a LOT faster than in previous Halo titles.
Have you tried Place at start:yes + Respawn time:never + Min:1 + Max:1 ?
You could also make sure that the Ball is always being “used” to prevent it from resetting (ex: add a few shield doors/explosives/gravity lifts/inclines on the map to make sure that the ball won’t remain still for too long to prevent it from resetting).
There are a ton of Forge bugs besides this. I did notice the golf ball issue though.
Respawn points sometimes disappear immediately after you drop them.
Trait Zone properties are not persistent.

Don’t forget about the forge blocks rotating one degree every time you save changes to a map…
