Forge Forum Tags

hey y’all!

as you guys get more and more used to Halo Infinite’s Forge and start using this section, I wanted to ask for your input here.

what topic tags would be most helpful to see here? we obviously have ‘forge’ already but what other tags would you like to see?

let me know and i’ll add things as i can!

Spitballing some ideas:

  • A tag for different gametypes? Players are assuredly going to make their own ways to play the game, but a base tag for slayer, team slayer, infection, and the other base gametypes might be useful.

  • a general tag asking for general help

  • a more specific tag for asking for help with scripting, map design, game balance, etc. People who are interested in code might not be interesting in game balance or architecture. That’s why specific help tags might be good. Or maybe if the tag system can search for two tags at the same time there can just be a “help” tag and then other general tags like “scripting/coding” and “building” or “game balance”.

  • Work In Progress (WIP) tag to show off stuff that’s unfinished and being actively developed

  • A tag for bugs/glitches/errors/crashes

  • A tag asking for people to playtest the map being shown off. People using this tag will probably also include instructions for how/where to download their map for playtesting. Some people will probably ask potential playtesters to send them a friend request in order to make a playtesting session happen.

  • A tag just for showing off something. (EX: in-game art, cool building, etc.) Will probably include whole playable things and pictures or video of very specific non-playable things.

  • A tag about asking for feedback. I know some people may want to post something they made for the sake of getting people to play it so they can get feedback. It might also be a picture of a room or picture of a map that’s WIP that they want people to critique.

  • A tag for threads that are meant to be educational. Maybe it’s a “best practice” or a guide on how to do something or a PSA about a potential hurdle, or a literal guide on how to do something. There were a lot of written guides and video guides about how to use forge made for all the previous games. A tag for that kind of stuff would be helpful. “How-to”? “Guide”? “Instructional”?

  • A tag for scripted contraptions. The Megalo gametype coding built into previous games was super useful and is still actively used in MCC since it works on consoles. Since Halo: Infinite has a sort of coding feature… I can’t say how since I’m not really playing the game… a tag for it could be really useful. I don’t know if scripting for gametypes is a thing anymore or if it all has to be done inside of the map instead. If both are possible then they should have separate tags. Otherwise there should absolutely be a tag just for map scripting.

  • A tag for PC mods. I don’t know how this may be used in Halo: Infinite, but the PC version of MCC has several PC-only mods that are very cool. I think it would be smart to have a tag for this ahead of time.

A help tag would be a must, or guide tags for scripting and general forge usage.

I second this one as well.

A tag for object prefabs, all-though I am not sure if saved prefabs are shareable at this time, or if they will be in the future.

  • modes – i can definitely look into mode tags!
  • general help – can do!
  • specific help tags – gonna be tricky, there’s a length limit to tags (unknown off the top of my head but shorter than longer)
  • WIP – easy
  • bugs/glitches/errors/crashes – this one’s not gonna happen. those issues should not be reported here and need to go to Halo Support directly. do not want to encourage people to report them here via tags
  • playtest/show off – i can but realistically, how often will it get used in a useful time frame?
  • general show and tell – can’t share images/videos here so won’t really be applicable
  • feedback – this would need to differ from the general feedback tag that exists, do you have any suggestions?
  • guides/best practices – i love this idea. would “guide” or “how to” be a good option?
  • scripting – would “scripting” cover that? or are you thinking more specifically? if so, do you have examples?
  • pc mods – easy
  • prefabs – yup, great call

anything else?
