I have seen a few of the forge reveals on youtube, and I like the new look of some of the items, there is definitely graphically more detail put into every item.
However, I have a problem with forge. Mechanically it is great, it works, but aesthetically forge maps are eye soars. For me, a lot of fun was driven from Reach because I would simply get sick of staring at grey all the time, GREY.
Maps like Asylum and other custom maps that are very dominant in playlists are great, but the consistent GREEN and GREY colour scheme I feel is in my face like capital letters.
I will probably enjoy Halo 4 even if the same colour scheme is adopted, but nevertheless I would like a skin or colour changing system on forge-able items, or at least some variance in colour. I no longer want to play on a Forerunner Detroit.
Anyone know if they have announced anything about this? And if not, do you guys feel they should? Surely me and my friends aren’t the only ones that are sick and tired of GREY AND GREEN?
I’m glad I’m not the only one who loathed all the forge maps in Reach. Sure, they played decently, but they look like poo. And for whatever reason, %90 of the maps in Reach are made on Forge.
As for the skins idea, I don’t know if that would be needed. Maybe they could just let us build with something OTHER THAN FORERUNNER PLATFORMS!
Yeah the fact that they’ve only let us have forerunner platforms in Reach is also worrying, seen as though Halo 4 is revolved around the forerunners, seems less likely we will see any other colours in 4…
I focus more on the shapes and pieces used. I also liked how we had the ability to use even some color like green, yellow, red, orange, etc. for accents. That was nice.

Shapes and pieces are important, but as long as we have multiple fairly basic shapes, in today’s version of forge that is enough seen as though we can morph items into each other to create nearly anything. Colours seem to be something Halo devs have had their ears-plugged up about however.
Maybe the dynamic lighting coupled with lights, assuming they’re adding them, would work really well. They’ve obviously thought about the aesthetics on forge to do that, lets hope they have considered colours…
They should atleast make a color wheel for the objects. But what would be really good if we could choose a texture for each object. Like jungle, ice/snow, lava, mythic (think Sandbox), desert etc…
Halo 4 its Forge will be a big improvement over Reach. And be sure to expect even more awesome sausage stuff in Halo 5 due to it being next gen!

I remember only a few months after Reach went out I found a thread that was pretty damn popular calling for this kind of thing. People really wanted it, but eh… nothing :’(

What? I don’t quite understand what you mean… If you thought I meant these kind of threads are made a lot you are… well not mistaken, that’s true though. But that’s a good thing. Us Forgers need to be heard!
