Idc what anyone says but them adding co-op and acting like it’s the saving grace to this game is sad. Sure it’s cool to play the campaign with friends AROUND LAUNCH not almost a year later. At this point they should have launched forge first.
Forge adds way more replay value to the game over co-op. Most ppl play halo for the multiplayer not for just co-op.
Forge allows so many more playlists to be created, custom games, fun maps added to matchmaking and just creativity. What does co-op add almost a year after launch? It doesn’t bring most ppl back, most have already beat the game numerous times or just stopped playing.
It’s just annoying reading headlines and ppl acting like this is the new BR mode. I’m sorry to tell you guys but this isn’t a saving grace to halo. Late is better than never but forge would have been better.
I don’t derive all of a game’s value from replayability. I would have preferred co-op at launch over Forge at launch. However, having neither at launch has been an embarrassment.
Are there headlines being written? Are player counts rising again? Then I’d say it is a saving grace. Grace, to some degree, has been saved. I’m sorry it’s not what you wanted but nobody likes a party pooper.
Until they sort out how the forge file sharing is going to work then there is little point launching forge now.
They need to do at bare minimum have a custom games browser and file share option.
Or what would be cooler would be to make it so that people can submit their maps and game types to some sort of match composer / browser where you can find gametypes of interest. Ie submit your maps to 343 and have it put into rotation.
Other players could then search for all game types or only ones that are rated 3+ stars by the community.
You could in theory select the gametype category of “obstacle course” or “Hide and seek” or whatever game types put into matchmaking where people can search for it. Ideally you could have your map “trending” if it gets popoular.
If they release forge without these kinds of plans in place, then it’s release will fizzle just like everything else has so far with infinite. Better to release it with a bang in season 3 with some cool plans for how you can get your maps trending on a global stage. That way you will get both all the community creators frothing, and also hopefully bring back some of the player base.
Meanwhile, I agree that the coop will not release with as much pressure for success other than to function. So may as well release that whenever.
Also they need to make better canvas maps for forge anyway… Season 3 really sounds like a more realistic plan for forge to release.
I’m with you. Forge is needed purely for content generation.
That all said the campaign is payable content so it’s probably fair it is completed first - regardless of whether or not Access this through gamepass
I also anticipate making campaign 2 player is comewhat easier - but purely conjecture on my part
Only reason they would’ve pushed CO-OP first is to add more value to the handy-dandy $60 campaign purchase that lost out on the cooperative play crowd. By adding this back, it’ll hopefully attract more consumers.
As for Forge, if management has any wits about them, it’ll be nothing more than a free community content creation tool. It’ll pay for itself with express community content and a more attractive community experience, which in turn leads to higher replayability and better publicity.
That’s just the way I see it though. Personally, I would’ve doubled down on Forge and Customs games first.
Some are easily pleased, but knowing it’s taken 343 this long, there are lot more issues with Infinite then 343 would care to admit, and it’s not just with the game, it’s within the business.
I don’t care for Co-Op, that “hype” was vary short lived after the Infinite launch and I’m not going to go into detail how wrong it was to base a Halo campaign/open world off of Zelda. My only interest at this point is forge world, the rest of the game is dead to me.
I’d imagine it might have to do with the development of both. Forge is most likely more complicated that co-op infrastructure allowing for more time to get the pieces in order so it’s playable within the timeframe given.
I’m thinking is that you have to pay money for the campaign. They want to make sure that the people who actually paid money get to have their product finished first over the free people. Same reason people who call ahead and order first in a store get first priority over walk-ins.
So far this seems to be the case too. Whenever something that directly ties into their store they rush a fix out in hours (like the Locus bundle) When something goes wrong with stuff without dealing with money, it takes longer.
At least that’s just what I think. Campaign people actually paid money and are entitled to have $60 worth of campaign content. Free people have to wait, even if they are more numerous and will add more to the game than co-op will.
Last august 343i apologized that they were delaying the two features for quality control reasons. This implies both were in development prior before release. How complete they were at the time we will never know. The fact of the matter is they choose to push out Co-op first and they did even sticking to their promised road map. Not only that but adding replayable missions which were never projected this early. Give them a that a boy and if they stick to their road map it’ll be here in September.
I would assume they have different teams working on forge and co-op. I doubt the way they approach adding content to the game is “okay guys, we have this list of things to do, let’s pick one and every single person work on that until it’s done and then move to the next”.
