The recently shown off forge canvases are a joke, nothing but flat area, no character to them and the only one NOT recycled from Halo 5 was the marsh themed one. That’s really sad.
That’s nice ![]()
Well, I don’t think they were supposed to be super flashy. Just biome maps. Though, I guess they could have added a bit more.
I like glacier a lot and would like to see new biomes as future dlc.
Isn’t the idea to give Forgers a blank canvas and then they are responsible to add the character?
Are you looking for something more like Forge World or the H4 canvases with a lot of the terrain variability?
It should be a flat area, right?
A blank canvas is only blank until the artist gets ahold of it and turns it into what they envision.
They’re supposed to provide character for the outer regions of maps and skyboxes. Having them as flat maps is not the issue you think it is.
And with the new scaling tools… you can literally turn a molehill (rock) into a mountain in seconds.
We all miss Forge World… but not for long.
Yes, that’s exactly what I’m looking for. Halo Reach and Halo 4 had multi-biome canvases, something we haven’t seen in H5 and don’t seem to be getting with Infinite. Halo Reach Forge World was essentially an open campaign map in multiplayer, I want to see that kind of canvas come back, not these low effort minecraft superflatspresets.
Just wait a week and someone would’ve probably remade Forge World.
They did it on Halo 5, however the budget was pretty much fully used up. Halo Infinite will have like what? 16 times the budget? You’ll be able to build whatever you want mate.
Especially with the scaling system. A Forge World like canvas would cost peanuts in terms of the budget.
That’s not the point, the point is I want more canvases that are essentially campaign-esque, not more superflats. I want a world where I have to work the terrain but also have enough open space to do what I want. Flat is just boring in Halo.
Reach was just the one biome. 4 had multiple, but never in the same canvas.
I would like to see a snowy/icy canvas, and an open water canvas.
I did like how the canvases had some interesting areas already built up, it helped kick-start some creativity, but ultimately I think it is better to not have geometry get in the way.
I wonder if there will be a way to add a water effect. If I want to add a river and water fall to a beaver creek remake, will that be doable?
Joy.
I desperately hope there are better water options.
And BEAVER CREEK. One of my all time favourites. We used to finish every custom game night with an epic first to 100 on the Beave with shotguns. Those teleporters!
I don’t see the point on getting worked up over something you haven’t tested.
From what I have seen on YouTube you can make the terrain anything you want. Look at the guardian remake as an example… Would you even know what convas was used for that?
Forge world had to be the way it was because you couldn’t change the textures the same as infinite appears to work.
Ehhh, depends on how you look at it.
The original canvas was Sandbox from H3, a flat desert and airspace with no geometry. This minimal is design lets forgers work with no restrictions since you don’t have to worry about uneditable terrain getting in the way.
On the other side of the spectrum we have Reach’s Forge World. A large map with multiple type of terrain. Forger can implement this geometry into their maps and create some truly unique ideas. Of course this can go too far and you end up with H4’s Erosion which was notoriously difficult to forge on if memory serves me.
I’d like to see Forge World return as DLC-canvas or something. Although some might just make forge world in forge. Give it a week.
I agree with you here. Someone will likely remake it, but I’d rather have a proper dev-made canvas. Plus, I’d like to see a canvas with some interact-able things like a volcano. Again they may add more things in the future. Who knows?
You do realize they’re not only entirely new canvases, all of them, but that’s… what canvases are FOR right? Do you even Forge??
It’s hard in this day and age. I wonder if they believe the Halo ring on Forge World was a fully rendered and design objective in the game.
Oh dear. I wouldn’t be surprised.
