Forge Budget Bug, Halo: Reach MCC.

I’ve encountered this on the 360. There was already an invisible budget.

I’m having this same glitch, but im on xbox. Please fix soon, this is very annoying.

I was just working on building a massive forge map in halo 4, trying to build a huge walled map from forge island. About 4 hours into building the map, I was interrupted by this item limit. I’m very dissapointed, because I was going to play with a large group of friends on this map. But now, I can’t even finish it, despite still having plenty of items available in each category, and within the budget. What’s the point of having these limits so far out, when the player hits other limits before hand that we can’t even see???

I really hope this gets fixed.

I haven’t done much in forge in years, and was just getting back into it, and I had some very ambitious ideas in mind.

All seemed to be within the limits that the game would show me. Of course, I couldn’t even see what the real limit was…

Seriously, I could have just used bigger objects for a wall if they were available to me…, and I probably could remain within these parameters…

On my Series X Master Of Chief Collection I’m experiencing an issue where I can’t see myself this needs to be addressed asap I need another update

As this appears to be an issue with your game, we recommend heading over to https://aka.ms/HaloSupport for further assistance. Please review the latest known issues and submit a ticket if your issue is not listed.

Thanks!

Yeah I was the same back in july when Forge got released on pc.

Fast forward almost half a year and the problem still hasn’t been addressed in any of their devlogs. I’ve personally given up on the idea of them fixing it any time soon as for the past 5 months they have been prioritising getting all of the games on pc and more recently it doesn’t seem to be a large enough problem to rival even minor quality of life improvements. I have 5 maps half finished on Reach and a whole load more ideas waiting, just like you.

It’s a little annoying that they’ll have the custom browser and file share out early next year, but I won’t have any maps to upload because of this issue.

I received an email a few weeks ago (see below) regarding the ticket I submitted back in July, which of course I replied to accordingly.
Hello D4rk Ass4ssin25,

We wanted to check in and ask if this issue is still occurring? Please let us know.

Thank you,

UNSCOPSAgent14

I have the same issue. I was building a massive city map that I’ve put many hours in just to run in to this glitch as well. I hope 343 actually fixes this because custom games are the best part of halo.

Hey all!
For those of you still wondering if Forge is going to be fixed, I got a response to the ticket I submitted back in June. It seems like the issue isn’t one that we can expect to see fixed any time soon, if at all, which is what a lot of us expected.

Hi D4rk Ass4ssin25

We very much appreciate the time and effort taken to provide information on this issue. According to our engineering team, this behavior is expected at this time. In the event that you find your gameplay experience is severely impacted by this issue, be advised that we welcome and respond to this type of feedback at https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums.

Thank you,
Halo Agent 12

Still a problem 1/28/2021. I can’t place any more blocks with $21420 budget left.

Still not fixed, almost a year later.

Just ran into this bug with only around 4k of my 30k budget in halo 4 used. :frowning:

This is still an issue, just ran into the exact same bug.

Once I hit the item limit, I could spawn items, but I noticed they instantly despawned. I would fly far away in forge mode, and they would appear where I attempted to spawn them. I then would back away from them, and they would appear visibly, which is odd, but they have no physics, being holograms of their former selves.

Please, we are starting a community based around forge wars, and forge is so intrinsically important for this to work properly. If this can be fixed, it would be amazing. I know people have used mods to do this, but I really was hoping to avoid using them since then everyone needs to install them.

It’s hard coded into the engine. To my knowledge there are no mods that solve this, and 343 would not be able to fix this without rewriting the engine, which is harder than it sounds. The budget is not the real item limit.

Still happening…

Almost a year later, still hasn’t been fixed, even on PC… :frowning:

ran into it this morning, WHY! so much potential space in my map down the crapper!

This may never be fixed as it is a preventative measure to hide another bug. Both would have to be fixed if this one is to be fixed.

The bug I’m referring to is the flashing objects bug. Put enough assets close enough that they all load in at a high detail LOD level while they’re all on screen at the same time (even behind one another), and you will see that they all start to flash wildly like their textures are turning white for a frame or so before returning to normal. If your objects are more spread out, or if you’re standing in the middle of all of them so that some aren’t on-screen, then this issue will not occur. But if you, say, build a Mombasa Streets map inspired by Halo ODST like I did, and you stand at one end of the map in the far corner looking at the rest of it, you’ll see everything start to flash like crazy.

This issue will come up a lot more if they just straightaway increase the number of items that can be on the map. They would need to fix the rendering engine to allow more objects without the flashing issue before they can increase the item cap. And that’s just the issue I’m aware of. Who knows what other issues might be being prevented with this artificial asset cap? Maybe server lag when there are too many objects moving by running on the physics engine. Maybe huge download times when starting a match on a map that one of the players hasn’t ever downloaded before which might cause matches to time out and boot everyone. Honestly, who knows? It could cause the Forge World island itself to stop spawning in due to some other vital hard-coded engine limitation. Fixing any of these problems might break how campaign levels load in, causing all manner of untold new bugs.

We really have no idea why this limitation was put in place, and especially if it can be removed without breaking the entire game. They may be trying to expand it right this very second, dealing with bug after bug trying to get it to happen. After all, they’re pushing fan-made maps really hard with the Custom Games Browser right now. But whether or not they’re going to succeed while the bulk of 343 is focusing on Infinite is a very big question.

Stay hopeful, but do realize this change is not guaranteed by any means. Best to just keep forging within the limitation than to stop while expecting a change any time soon.

By the way, the limit is probably 700 objects, but Forge World’s main map assets are taking up the difference, reducing it to 645. For example, the island itself, the water, the trees and some of the rocks, the tree clusters out of bounds, the Forerunner tower out of bounds as well as its energy projectile, the waterfalls, and more are all likely reducing the maximum number of assets 1 at a time. The tree clusters out of bounds probably count as 1 objects, and likely move together as a whole as games are generally made, but the rocks and trees inside the bounds likely count as individual objects with some exceptions that are built into the island itself as a single game object.

This is all just an educated guess based on my knowledge of how games are made, why the max number is different depending on the level you’re forging on (though most people only reach it in Forge World), and the fact that 700 would be perfect to Bungie who are obsessed with the number 7. Still, this is just an educated guess on my part.

If this is true, then 343 MAY be able to effectively increase the number by a small amount by combining Forge World assets into one super asset. Like maybe increase it by 50 or so. I imagine some items may need to remain separate for shader purposes like the water, but they may be able to combine enough to make a small impact on our Forging capabilities. That all being said, it’s possible the true limit is 650, and that they are only using up 5 of the total assets down to 645. I have no idea. What’s the limit in Halo 2 Forge again? That may be closer to the true maximum in Reach as well, all things considered. Not 700 or 650 unless it’s one of those.

Anyway, this got kinda rambly. Just keep up the Forging! I wanna see your stuff in the CGB.

Yeah I figured that one out myself building building a jigsaw map in reach shame halo 5 seemed to work perfectly with big maps, I hope infinite is as good as if not better then halo 5 customs
