FORGE BELONGS OFFLINE

This is just absurd. A feature that was available offline since Halo 3. Why do I need to connect to a server to play by myself? I understand that it makes playing with other people easier, but I’m playing by my self!!! Why can’t I switch to offline mode, at the expense of people being able to join me? This should be MY choice, 343i, not yours. I don’t think I need to say any more.

Are the services down at the moment? I’m getting the “there was a problem with the dedicated server,” error. Never had this problem in Halo 3. For -Yoinks!- sake.

Error with connecting to dedicated server. Ridiculous.

Forge is about being Social and giving back to the community. If it’s offline. For one who the -Yoink- is going to test the map. And 2 who’s going to give you any tips on the map if nobody can access it because it’s offline.

Typically forging is a solo op, at least for me. There is no need for my friends to join and start spawning random crap I will eventually delete later. Whenever servers are acting funny it makes it difficult to even start a game of forge. Might as well play offline save the map, and test it when dedicated servers are back to norm. If players want to forge offline than let them. The only obstacle that might not let this happen, is Halo 5 does not appear to support local matches. It could be a possibility that cloud computing and other server benefits makes it impossible to play certain modes offline. If its possible, I am up for it, if not that sucks for those who would rather play offline.

Yeah I was just forging a map about to finish it too I got disconnected and lost my progress I ain’t doing that -Yoink- again 343 make it where you can forge offline and online this is stupid

Tom French confirmed on Twitter that they are looking into a “local” mode for forge for offline. I don’t think it’s been confirmed, but the dedicated servers we connect to for forging may be doing cloud computing to help with complex actions. Also, there are tons of threads on this subject already.

It’s being discussed with the teams just now, one of the Forge Devs has been speaking about it on Twitter recently:

edit Out BR’d again, i have too many damn tabs open haha

If they make forge offline I will consider buying this game. It still doesn’t help that this entire game should be playable offline with split screen but its a step in the right direction. How does a game loose features instead of gain them?

I understand what you’re trying to say, but you’re wrong. People can test my map when I allow them to in custom games. Or, I can switch my offline forge lobby to an invite only lobby, and then I can have them join to test it or make changes before kicking them and switching back to offline. If I even let them join to begin with.

Following your logic, are you suggesting that people are just now able to test other peoples maps with the added online only feature? If so, I have some news for you. We’ve been able to test maps that were made offline since Halo 3, and we didn’t need to always be online just to make them. Believe it or not, it’s possible for people to make maps while not being connected to the internet, 343i just isn’t letting us, yet. These offline forgers can still provide to the community by adding the file to their file share, and sharing it on a website such as this, so it’s not going to harm anything except 343i’s wallet to take the time and develop an offline mode. Which I assume, they figuring out just how much that will cost them. But they should do it regardless of seeing any returns. They owe it to us for us giving them $60 of our monies in hopes of a complete game. Plus they are making a great deal more money on top of the already “record breaking” sales off of their microtransactions. So how much would they possibly lose that they most likely won’t make up in their next REQspansion?

I have over 20 tabs open at all times.
But anyways. I’m glad they are just now speaking about considering letting us play the game, that we bought and gave them money for, offline. To be a little blunt about this, but trying not to be salty, they should have considered this to be an added feature on launch(of forge). I, and most likely several others, would be much more appreciative if they spent some extra time to make forge much more accessible to a broader crowd. I.e., those who don’t have gold, or don’t have reliable internet connections and prefer forge over anything else. I would have commended them for their work on forge more than I do now. Even more so if there was a community file share like bungie favorites or the file search similar to Reach. Which was better than Bungie favorites, in my opinion. But I am commending them for actually seeing through to this. I just wish they had done it sooner before I lost several of my pieces of work because of disconnects.

I think it’s because your map is saved to a cloud, or it uses the cloud to forge, but it would be less stressful if we had an offline mode.

I did a little looking around and saw that the cloud was used for computing AI and physics. The only downside to offline forge would be decreased framerate when dealing with a lot of physics props. That’s if it even applies to forge. I saw this being talked about in warzone. Hence why I said AI. There is no AI in forge. Yet(hopefully, if it can be done from the cloud, I don’t see why not)

It should be offline, when I got my 360 I used to do Forge on H3-Reach, I played with the sandbox, trying weapons and armour and explosives, examing the map’s detail and environments, making up head canon for these maps, I honestly had fun doing that so making it online even though I had a pretty good internet since 2010 leaves a sour taste in my mouth, you can’t limit the community or they will limit you, just saying

I wish we can Forge on our PC as well

This online only thing its a big heap of -Yoink-
