Forge and Co-Op DELAYED AGAIN

the original articles stated 3-6 months. so nothing has changed .everyone just assumed the shorter.

Everything you’re saying is correct, but everything you’re saying also accommodates it being a reasonable choice for a delayed feature. That it gives people something to do way after general MP has gotten tired positions it as something optimal to launch as a “year 2” feature.

The original article stated co - op campaign would release 3 months after launch and forge 6 months. Now we are learning co-op campaign will launch 6 months after launch and forge will launch 9 months. Perhaps you skimmed through the original article and are confused about the timings

I would prefer it working but I’m a bit baffled as to how they can have a development time that’s double that of any Halo game released, and yet still somehow be missing core features such as co-op and forge. And yes, I get it is more advanced and such, but they’ve also had TWICE as much time as they’ve had previously. Something tells me the development cycle of this game has had some SERIOUS issues, similar to BO4 where they just scrapped everything and started from scratch.

Yeah it sucks but would you rather them delay the game again or release those features early and broken. If they add more maps/modes between now and then I think people will live. If not they can come back to the game when those features are out if they want.

I personally would rather them release a more “barebones” forge akin to Reach, then release all the cool new features later. That way we have a map editor now, with more to look forward to later.

I remember being originally told that the times would be 3 and 6 months for co-op and forge.

Nothing!! They were never going to release anything a year ago.

Surely, what happened is exactly what they wanted to happen. There is no possible way this could have released a year ago.

This also ties in perfectly with Xbox 20 years.

Problem is the game is still not ready, becaused they need to enusre their monetization works first.

Live service, worst thing Halo ever did.

That was the original plan but now it’s 6 months and 9 months respectively.

I kinda disagree with it, the Problem for Forge is quite simply that stuff like Serverbrowser, Filesharing and such comes to late, except that Forge is potenitally another pillar for Halo’s Longlivety. That being said from my experience in general, Forge still can handle a delay “IF” the coregame is good and offere nough stuff. Because from my experience on Forge “normally” (except creators themself) people only fully jump on it when they are saturated by the normal multiplayer.

I don’t understand where their 6 years of development went. It is clear them pushing the MP as a free part of the game, but still charging $60 for the campaign all they want is money. They do not care for the integrity of Halo anymore.

It turns out the game’s subtitle actually refers to the development time.

Or, and hear me out on this, 343 could have just delayed the game again until everything was ready to go at launch. This “beta” so-called, shows that the game is still nowhere near ready for an official launch. Yes the matchmaking works fairly well and the Graphics are gorgeous, but everything else is pretty sub-par.

100000% agree with this.

While I don’t agree with your overall appraisal of the games MP, I agree that a full delay would have went over smoother than the perception of shipping an unfinished title. Which brings us to the real issue of modern gaming: games as a service model is now the priority.

While I understand where you’re coming from, you’re pinning a lot of things to a franchise that aren’t really it’s responsibility. Halo had always existed to make money, the developers haven’t changed so much as the industry has. The last Halo title dropped 6 years ago, and while it didn’t have any FTP/seasons pass nonsense it was rife with lootboxes and microtransactions. The entire landscape of online gaming has changed thanks to Fortnite and Warzone, so it’s unfair to expect Halo to be the holdout and lose money as a result. What is fair is the expectation of a completed game, and for the dev to learn from other FTP models to better serve their first foray into that system.

Regarding development, a six year development window sounds huge, but it really isn’t. You have to realize that nearly the first half of that is conceptualization, story and art design, and writing. The bulk of the actual building of the game likely didn’t start until 2 years ago, especially considering the hardware transition. These aren’t excuses, just attempting to lend perspective. I think 343i should have delayed the whole package until it was done, and I’m not terribly comforted by the FTP MP suite being their focus, but from a marketing standpoint I can understand their rush. Their previous delay was a huge point of criticism for missing the hardware launch window, and the game looking undercooked overall in preview footage.

It’s a frustrating mess any way you look at it, but it is important to keep perspective.

I honestly think delaying may have been a smarter long-term move. People seem to be less willing to come back to a game they got bored of even if it has new stuff. If the hype around this dies down before stuff like Forge comes out (which it obviously will die down before then), then they are missing out on a good amount of players who may have stuck around if they would’ve just delayed the game instead.

Unless they release a blank canvas at some point, no Forge means no Grifball for a long time. Certainly nothing from the community. I don’t think that will sit very well with a lot of players.

I’d agree more in terms of coop than Forge. Forge breaths life amd longevity into the game when the launch maps get boring, it’s not a feature that many show up looking for day one. That being said I do agree that people respond more positively to the concept of a “complete” game, even in the face of another delay, but from their end of it they can’t keep bumping Microsofts key franchise.

It’s certainly one of those things that with a delay of this magnitude, when it drops it better be robust. Otherwise you’ll go from pissed off hold-outs to “efff this game” real quick.
