I’m not really educated when it comes to programming AI to navigate maps, or even whether or not my idea is even possible with Halo 4’s programming, but I’ll give it a shot.
The idea is to be able to use Forge to paint invisible navigation lines around a forged map that covers all of the path ways that AI can follow, so they can successfully navigate your map, making Forge Firefight a reality. If it’s too late to implement this into H4, then maybe this can be worked into Halo 5’s programming.
I know this idea sounds far fetched, but I hate keeping ideas to myself. What do you think?
EDIT: I also figured this idea could work for play test bots too.
It’s not bad at all. The only thing is that, there may not be firefight in Halo 4. I’d like to see more visual ideas though.
By the Rings they should definitely add something like that. Most likley won’t be added in Halo 4 as of this late, even if 343 was listening…according to them, they are in “crunch time.” Hell, for all we know, it could already be in there…after all Frankie and BS Angel said that Forge info would be released later this year and that we ‘would not be disappointed.’
I remember back on Bungie’s forums about Halo 3, right around the time that a video came out, forgot what it was, but it had A.I running around on Rat’s Nest and a couple other maps. I believe it had to do with the Mythic maps because the ‘Grid’ from forge was visible as well as forge Tunnel pieces from Sandbox on the ‘Grid’ itself.
Anyway whenever that video was released by Bungie, The community went into an uproar thinking that they could somehow implement A.I into the maps themselves…Honestly, unless 343 ‘Sacrifices’ some major element of the Game itself, or overhauling the engine indefinitely. I don’t see it being done any time soon…well…maybe the 720 (X Box) could do it. MAYBE.
Or, check this out, what if they did it, but released it on a separate disc…I’ve always thought that if it were possible, something like this should be released on another disc. Buyer’s would get Pissy with the idea of switching discs back and forth bu think about it. I mean really think about it…Yea you’d have the Forge on one disc, that would allow you to make massive maps…maybe 3, possibly 4 different ‘Forge World’ types of maps…different terrains…
One disc would contain that…it would have all the room that the Campaign and Multiplayer had, that being the 2nd disc.
So your’e not lost; Disc one-Campaign and Mutliplayer. Disc two- The Forge with A.I On map capabilities. Simple and easy to use.
