Judging from the GameInformer Interview with 343 that someone posted on the forums And the xbox.com product description of Halo 4 I think the Forerunners are looking for help from Master Chief and the Humans (also possibly the Covenant). Much of the concept art shown and the ones shown from the interview shows Pelicans flying around the Forerunner world without being attacked and the land is peaceful. Plus another picture shows Master Chief holding a gun and behind him is some forerunner structures. Everything looks peaceful with the Humans and the Forerunner environment that I don’t think were even fighting them. Even in the trailer, Master Chief’s ship is being sucked in probably to get help from him and wake up.
Perhaps it has to do with the events of Halo: Cryptum. When the Flood first arrived, it was the humans that invented a cure that nearly wiped them out. The Forerunner waged genocidal war against them, and in spite the humans hid what they knew of a cure. The Librarian, a Forerunner lifeshaper, protected a small amount that she also implanted with as many human memories as possible, to be genetically transferred.
Maybe John is the human that is expected to be able to unlock this information in full?
> k so can one of you people explain to me exactly what/who a forerunner is? i’ve played all the halo’s but never read any of the books.
I’m surprised you have not at least looked them up. Forerunners made the ring worlds, shield worlds, the big ship thingy that the Covenant called High Charity, the ark, and fought the flood around 100,000 years ago. If there are any left there whereabouts are unknown although they might be in the shield world in H4. Pretty much every thing that happened in the games were because of the Forerunners but without them we would not be here today because of the rings.

I don’t think High Charity itself is Forerunner technology. The dreadnought that powers it is most certainly that, but the city itself is markedly Covenant in design. A very brief skim of the entry on Halopedia states that Covenant are the manufacturers.

Oh, hmm, that makes more sense lol. Why would the Forerunners make a city for a dreadnought that is meant for repopulating planets. I know I herd that from somewhere though, oh well.
Thank you! Someone who finally knows that the Forerunners are good guys! Not to say that the other people who knew this don’t count, but the majority of the threads I’ve seen are saying that we’ll be fighting Forerunners.
And as a point to any naysayers: Why would the Forerunners bother to destroy the Flood to save the galaxy, just to kill us all later on? Precursors, are the bad guys.

The Forerunners are… complicated. As complicated as any species is. There are villainous ones and there are benevolent ones. It is possible that the kindliness towards humans that we’ve seen in Forerunner tech so far is a manifestation of the Librarian’s ideals, not of what remained of Forerunner society’s. But we know that the Forerunner also had a great deal of capacity for hatred of humanity too, because it was they that wiped out the human populace (and san’shyuum, and who knows how many others).

I’m guessing you have not read cryptem or primordium? From what I hear the Forerunners are just after galactic power. The rings were originally made for concurring planets, one was even TESTED on a Precursor planet. Humans were around back then and somewhat advanced but the Forerunners seeing us as a threat devolved us. This is just what I heard, I have not read the Forerunner saga yet either.
