Forerunners are not immortal?

In Halo 4, the Librarian says the Composer was made to have the Forerunners become immortal. However, this seems weird, as weren’t they essentially immortal since all the genetic mutating they did to themselves, as well as the armor they wore. Did anyone else also kinda question that?

Being able to live long is not the same as being immortal.

What DCobra said. The Forerunners could live for thousands of years, but they weren’t immortal.

Likely immortal as not being able to die as opposed to not having a set lifespan expectancy.

Their could manipulate time with slipspace bubbles, which could make them seem imortal, but as a living being, they die like anything else.

Also, their armor, combined with the aid of an ancilla, prlongs their life by a lot, but doesn’t prevent everything. As in Silentium, we learn about a Warrior-servant nearing blindness.

They were never said to be immortal in the first place. It was just assumed that they were by fans and by the Covenant.

This type.

Remember that the whole “Forerunners are immortal” thing came from Bornstellar in Cryptum, and it’s made a point of in the narrative that his naivety that stems from his privilege makes him an unreliable narrator.

Librarian is regarded as one of the oldest living Forerunners, and she’s only something over 11,000 years old.

There exists a vast rift of difference between immortal and enduring. It stands to reason that anything that has a beginning, must have an end.

Which would include their lives as Digital beings, so they wouldn’t have achieved immortality through the Composer either.

They could be described as “Immortal” because their influence is seen throughout the Galaxy and they will never truly be forgotten. But are they immortal in the sense that they could live forever? No they are not.

Chapter 14 , Page 345

<Gods are defined as eternal Therefore gods can’t die. Forerunner could exist for very long periods, but they died. Therefore they were not gods.>

It is implied that the Promethean that had been blinded didn’t allow her armor to repair it out of pride.

Bornstellar is hit with enough radiation when the Faber glasses a San Shyuum city that he is blinded and should be dead, and his armor fixes all the damage in a few minutes.

There is no reason for her to still be blind. Except by choice. Also there are a number of Forerunners described as being older than the Didact, who is only a thousand or so years younger than the Librarian. I could see them being functionally immortal so long as they have access to life support.
