Forerunner Weapons in H5 are more Pro than H4

I’ve seen alot of people complain that the Forerunner weapons have been ‘nerfed’ since H4. Really, they have been slightly redesigned to be just as effective, but be more differentiated from their human counterparts, and also be more ‘pro’ to use instead of how awfully nooby the H4 versions are. I said this in another post, but I figured it is worth it’s own thread.

Inceneration cannon – have to charge to get that big deadly blast. Standard blast gives alot more options on how to use the weapon (you can use as weaker RL, or even get a little mortar with it).

Scattershot – actually have to aim and be on target instead of the spamming the trigger like crazy.

Binary Rifle – have to hold beam on target for a few tenths of a second instead of the easy, high magnetism, hitscan OHK.

Light Rifle – less forgiving hip fire bc of single shot vs burst; less zoom magnification for Smart Scope. Increased power to keep (and promote really) it’s place in the sandbox, however.

Supressor and Boltshot are the only ones that aren’t ‘pro’ versions of their H4 analogues, but actual redesign. Both have homing, but supressor takes knowledge of the weapon to use effectively (ramp up/warm up), and the boltshot is no longer a pocket shotty at least.

My thoughts:

Supressor and Boltshot = Brilliant

I used to be pretty decent with the Light Rifle, back when I was facing the Christmas noobs. Now, I can’t use it for the life of me. I really hate the Suppressor and the Boltshot, because I find the Assault Rifle and Storm Rifle to be better than the Suppressor and the Magnum to be better than the Boltshot. Scattershot is a good shotgun substitute and the Incineration Cannon is okay.

Edit: and the Binary Rifle is absolutely horrible now.

Light rifle is boss. I love having that and a carbine or storm rifle

I think they’re stronger in h5 overall. Light rifle is 3shot kill if zoomed. Scattershot can actually “scatter” now and it’s still one hit kill just like the regular shotgun if in range, binary rifle is unique rather be being a kill on hit like the beam and unsc sniper, suppressed is great if warmed up and if you back up while shooting it (it tracks if you keep reticle on target) and bolts hot is three round burst that tracks like the suppressor. Incinerator still does what it did in h4, just have to charge it now instead. Bolt and binary are the only ones I could see an arguement as being downgraded when compared to h4 but I can see the reasons. Bolt shot was a mini shotgun off spawn because of custom load outs in that game and binary was just like any other sniper except it gave away your position if zoomed. At least h5 made them all unique if you ask me.

-H4 incin vs h5 incin. H4 wins. H5 River of Light is vastly stronger, same with the Heart Seeker.
-The scatter shot feels identical in both, but the h5 Didact’s Singet has homing abilities.
-the H4 bi-ri is “the red beam of death” not even the Twin Jewels can match against the h4 version.
-the H4 light rifle was a br clone. The H5 br is a weak sniper.
-the H4 bolt shot has a shotgun and headshot capabilities. The h5 bolt shot burst shots tracking bullets. Didact’s Hand is roughly 2x better than the default. I say they are about equal.
-the suppressor was a weak AR in H4. The H5 suppressor tracks and slowly increases RoF. Upgraded varients coming soon.

I say H5 buffed 3 and Nerfed 2.

Incineration Cannon = Wish the charged shot had stronger secondary charges like the Halo 4 cannon, but balanced enough. Powerful.

Binary Rifle = a bit too weak. Maybe remove the obtrusive red laser when aiming and make it have a bright red scope glare akin to the other sniper rifles. Also reduce duration of shot by about 5% (same damage, very slightly faster on delivery.)

Light Rifle = Perfect as is. One of my favorite guns.

Suppressor = one less shot to warm up. 3% faster Rate of fire when warmed up. Slightly longer tracking range while aiming (+5 meters?)

Boltshot = .01-.02 seconds less burst delay. Bolts move slightly faster.

Scattorshot = 5% more range, damage, reload speed, and Rate of Fire

No, the scattershot is inconsistent. I have a clip where I shot some dead on, and I was right in front of him, and he didn’t die.

Boltshots are great. Love picking them up at the beginning of Stormbreak & ARC. And then Closed Fist & Open Hand are superb. Haven’t played with the other Forerunner weapons much, but I don’t mind using Boltshots. They are excellent at taking down Knights. I’ve taken out Commander Locagos at the beginning of Stormbreak with a battlefield recovery Boltshot many times.

you refuse to use a tool that decreases spread and increases effective range of a weapon?

The only Forerunner weapons I like in Halo 5 are the Light Rifle/Incineration Cannon(H4 Incineration Cannon THE BEST, but I guess the one in 5 will do for now).
Why I don’t like the others:

  • Boltshot: Go from a H4 Mini-Shotgun to a burst action sidearm…meh it’s ok. - Suppressor: May have been tweaked and FAR better than it’s H4 counterpart IMO, still don’t like it. - Scattershot: Just…no - Binary Rifle:“Uses Retina of Meridian’s eye or whatever it’s name is, the one with a 4-round magazine, and somehow gets zero kills with it”. I want my REQ card back.

It doesn’t differ at all to me. I get many kills without using it. This isn’t a generic CoD game, it’s Halo.

I used to hate all of the Promethean weapons until I learned how to use them better. Now I’ll pick them up all the time. The binary is one of my favorites now that I learned not to aim for the head like other snipers.

The Binary Rifle was overly nerfed, especially with the addition of the spartan thruster pack on every player…either get rid of the sight that appears when you zoom (as players can see it a mile away)…or make the gun single single shot…

I don’t agree OP. I really loved the H4 Forrunner weapons. The H5 Forrunner weapons to me are meh. They all should have been new weapons rather than just redesigns.

You can thank the “pro” side of Halo for making that useless change. Seriously…why is it a BEAM now?

They`re more better in H5 the scatter shot just has a different mechanic then H4 did, while the higher variants do better though.

They definately feel more balanced. If it’s one thing 343 did right IMO is weapon balancing. Vehicles could use some love… Different topic altogether.
I find the Scattershot too inconsistent to be a reliable weapon. I’ve never bothered with smart link, so I’ll give that a shot and see if it helps
Binary rifle got reigned in. It’s still an immensely powerful gun in the right hands.
Boltshot and suppressor both feel good. I wouldn’t mind a longer range on both of them.
