So i’m thinking about a weird concept design of a rifle that only fits into the long range niche. The problem with the sniper is you can use it at any range, and if your good at no-scoping you can use it as a short range weapon. I thought about a weird weapon that i’m sure a lot of you wouldn’t like just because of how odd it works… I thought about the “forerunner hand rifle,” think of the small sword an elite unsheathes in Halo Reach to do an assassination. It’ll look similar to that. When not zoomed in pressing the fire button will make you lunge towards you opponent. It’s purely melee and takes 3 hits to kill. When you press down on the analog stick, your character brings his wrist to his face and looks through a small scope that only has the options 8x zoom, and 10x zoom. It’s now a rifle that shoots beams like the beam rifle. I’m currently debating if it should be one shot kill for a headshot, or two (same thing goes with the body shot, two shots, or three?) Once you zoom back out the gun shrinks down to the size of a small plamsa-like sword that you can use in combat but it will take up to 3 hits with it to kill.
How does this add to gameplay? That’s the question you have to ask.

It’s a gun that perfectly fits in the long range niche. You can only use it with 8x, 10x zoom so you can’t “run and gun” like you could with sniper. It’s pure long range.
Well then basically you have a sniper rifle that takes more shot’s to kill somebody and if someone get the jump on you, you have a one hit melee sniper rifle all in one…I don’t think that would work well.
My bad if you had this weapon and someone els had the AR why would it take them 2 hits to kill you but 3 hits to kill them that kind of effects game-play.

I was debating over whether or not it should be one shot kill, with all of it’s detriments…maybe it should be. And if I could, I wouldn’t make it have too much lunge. And I said it’d take 3 hits to kill if you used it as a melee weapon. So it’s pretty useless as a melee weapon, and only has use as a long range weapon.

It’s not supposed to be a short range weapon. It’s purely long range. The AR guy should be able to kill you if your within his range. Your long range, he’s short range.

That’s why i’m debating over whether to make it one shot kill to the head, or two shots…
