Forerunner Halo 3 vs Halo4

I replayed The Ark and The Covenant campaign levels of Halo 3 last night and I was shocked at how much more ornate and detailed the Forerunner interiors were. They were beautiful and not all grey! Even the Covenant weapons holders were so much more ornate. Actually visually, Halo 3 still looks really good overall. I don’t know what 343 spent time on, but there really isn’t much improvement in their campaign. The only thing I missed was sprint…

Th scene where the Forward Unto Dawn lands still gives me chills…

It makes me wonder what did 343 actually do in development. So many corners were cut in this game…

I also noticed how detailed the interior of the ghost it…there is an actual control panel where in Halo 4 its just light purple…nothing in there at all. How lame is that?

I actually did and still like halo 3 over halo 4, get pure nostalgia.

Let’s see, 343 don’t do the CGI cutscenes, Certain Affinity does the multiplayer maps, or some of them? And the Halo core was created by Bungie. So 343 is just modding the game?

I could be wrong, I just don’t care for Halo since Bungie is not managing it anymore.

All of these areas have a team under 343i. As for Bungie not making the game, it certainly doesn’t seem like they weren’t. The campaign certainly feels just like it used to, although I honestly think 343i is doing a better job with the story. And what do you mean Halo core? The game engine? Although Halo 4 runs on a HIGHLY modified Reach engine, they rebuilt the most important parts from scratch.

You guys have me curious now to look these things up.

“Hop on board kids to the ‘Bungie did better than 343i’ bandwagon. We got loads of evidence! What? You accuse us of being biased and of looking through ‘nostalgia glasses’ Simply Absurd!!”

Simply absurd, indeed. Pfft, I don’t even know what nostalgia means… super cereal.

In all seriousness though, I’m gonna go back and play some Halo 3, and keep an eye out for these things. I wouldn’t doubt what OP says, just curious. Besides this could be good constructive criticism for 343i in the campaign. Some things have already been brought to light through the campaign, like when you are flying the broadswords and when somebody crashes, everybody’s screen shakes which screws you up, and then it makes it so you crash. Or the boss fight with the Didact, that was pretty disappointing. good to bring up some issues about the campaign, since the majority of people complain about everything else. Campaign is probably the most important aspect of the game, so it’s good to try and improve every little thing you can, even if it’s small stuff like this.

The Forerunner structures in Halo 3 felt much more lively than the ones in Halo 4, which have been called lively but all I see is a bunch of floating stuff.

And the Prometheans didn’t feel connected to Requiem.

But most importantly, Halo 3’s Covenant scenery was superb. The comm node was useful for blockades and trick jumping. The lookout tower actually had roaming space and you didn’t get stuck in the grav lift. The supply case wasn’t egg shaped so it was easier to position and climb up on.

I think 343i assumes that all Forerunner architecture is just grey metal with glowing lines on it.

I’ve noticed a pretty major difference here.

In the past, Forerunner structures looked ancient and ominous. They were very large, basic in shape, and had metals that looked weathered.

In Halo 4 they look very shiny and futuristic. Not saying I hate the new look, but it’s definitely a large difference.

> And the Prometheans didn’t feel connected to Requiem.

I didn’t like the Prometheans as an enemy. They looked out of place in my opinion.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but never really commented about it. Most of the time, I feel like halos portrayed forerunner architect better than Requiem. I personally just don’t have a nice connection with Halo 4’s art style in general.

As with Ramirez said, I believe I just prefer the more ancient appeal. We had a lot of amazing forerunner structures in the past halos. The were grand size, and we could see them from ways beyond until we get to the main mission.

I also have to say, does anyone else get the feeling that 343i just put up a lot of Forerunner structures but said structures didn’t really serve much of a point? The floating structures at the start of Requiem, I mean sure they are cool but they just seem they only exist to be there.
