I’ve posted on this before and I dont know if it got any replies since the last time I looked due to the my topics link never working as it should

The question I have to ask is this: Why is the requirements for Crawlers and Crawler Snipers so high and hard to get in comparison to Crawler Primes? It seems that there are far more Crawler Primes in Spartan Ops missions than any other firm of Crawler, making it much easier to reach by default in comparison to the lesser forms. On top of that, why is it that Crawlers, Crawler Snipers, and Watchers even required for the Destroyer Commendation? As already stated, the lesser Crawler forms are easily outnumbered by Primes, and having them required along side Watchers doesnt seem like a fair requirement to have when the Covenant Destroyer commendation doesnt require the basic Grunt, Jackal, or Elite commendations mastered for completion.

As I see it with the Crawler, Sniper, and Watcher commendations, it feels like I am being forced to go through far more work in general to complete the Forerunner commendation than is even required for the Covenant commendation to begin with, seeing as none of the basic commendations are needed to complete it. To be forced to complete a commendation that is basically the Grunt Slayer commendation (2500 kills total) and to be expected to kill 900 Snipers, which are never in large numbers to begin with, and 900 Watchers (Rarely in large numbers), makes it seem like that there was not much thought put into the number of kills needed to start with.

It would be nice to actually know why they made what should have been the slightly easier commendation group to complete so much harder and tedious to finish the larger Covenant commendation group.

I believe that you can earn it is the campaign as well and there are many more snipers in that due to the lager scale of it.

Easiest thing you can do for getting regular Crawlers is to play on Easy. Which I agree is jut completely and totally stupid. I shouldn’t have to play through dozens of lame games where it is virtually impossible for me to die just so I can see an extra 10-15 Crawlers. And don’t even get me started on Crawler Snipers. The ONLY mission where you get double digit Crawler Snipers is The Challenge (Ep1Ch3), and then its only 9-10. Why are there not more Crawler Snipers on boards that have vehicles? You could stick in 20-30 of them easily so that there is ONE mission that has Crawler Snipers in it.

Nope, I played through the Campaign first before doing any SpOps or Matchmaking and I had zeros in every category that might be effected by killing enemies in Campaign.

no its spops enemies only. but OT yah they are ridiculous. specifically the crawler sniper, but its really the only difficult one because you can get plenty of crawler infantry on gagarin playing on easy and there are a couple different levels with 30ish watchers a piece. so really the forerunner destroyer commendation comes down to how much will do you have to listen to the beginning of i think its the second or third mission over and over agian for 1 kill every 30ish seconds. it sucks yah but compared to reach its a walk in the park.

All commendations come naturally, some just take longer than others, but if you want to boost the commendations:

  1. Don’t play co-op as you have to share your kills
  2. There are far less Crawler Primes on Easy
  3. Don’t pick chapters with any Covernant enemies
  4. There are chapters with larger numbers of Snipers - find them and grind them
  5. There are chapters with large numbers of Watchers - one of them starts with you being swamped by them, play it on easy and quit once you have killed the first wave of Watchers then repeat

343 have been changing the enemy numbers with each episode, I know in more recent episodes that have been more Knights than in the earlier episodes, so here’s hoping to a Crawler Sniper laden chapter in Episode 10, otherwise you might have to wait for Season 2.

Primes still outnumber all Crawlers even on Easy. I know this first hand because I solo on easy and use whatever MM is for general xp grinding.

According to Mercenary47 on Raptr, there are many more Snipers being in with the newer chapters. Not enough to really fix the problem, since Watchers actually sorta merit 900 kills with their swarm usage in some missions.

1: Doesnt fix the problem at all. I maxed out on Primes because of doing solo play for the sake of seeing all the Season One story in a recent timeframe.

2: Moot point, as stated once already, Primes still outnumber all other Crawlers combined.

3: Yeah, like it isnt already tedious enough to find them, but now I’m going to grind a mission just to get 10-11 snipers per game? Remind me how this actually FIXES the issue of the commendation being too high for its own good?

4: Yeah that counts, but once again, that doesnt deal with the tedious nature of grinding annoying enemies like them. Funny story, on easy I got jumped by 9-10 Watchers. All of them shot once and I died at full shields. Sorta made me wonder why Crawlers even existed when Watchers are better swarmers than Crawlers meant to actually fill that role.

haha its fine. if it makes you feel better i grinded like crazy in the second week of release so i think my crawler prime was maxed either at the end of the second week or very shortly after so there are probably a few thousand kills just from them that have counted for nothing.

There are levels where there are way more regular crawlers then primes… Spartan Miller simply the best level for all of the forerunners really… 16 snipers on easy (as long as none of the other prometheans accidently kill them which happens quite a bit unless you are quick)… may not have the most of everything but its the best promethean numbers by far

They’ve definitely messed up the number requirements on some of these I feel.

Especially as most people will play these co-op through the ‘Find a Game’ feature - they’ll only encounter Heroic and Legendary difficulties and not encounter large numbers of the easier enemy types.

This may be why Storm Grunts, Jackals and Elites are not required for the Covenant Destroyer commendation, just the higher ranks.

I agree that the Crawler numbers are way off though. I maxed out Crawler Prime very early on but don’t encounter as many basic Crawlers (even though their basic level is still required for the Forerunner Destroyer commendation).

The Snipers requirement just doesn’t make sense either - there are far fewer of those than Crawler Prime yet we’re supposed to get more? We’re supposed to kill 2475 of those but only 1025 Prime.

According to my calculations, if you play each chapter on every difficulty (to be representative) for the first 5 episodes you will encounter:

757 Crawlers (41.5% of Crawler encounters)
955 Crawler Primes (52.4% of Crawler encounters)
112 Crawler Snipers (6.1% of Crawler encounters)

This doesn’t fit the requirements at all. You need to kill:

5125 Crawlers (59.4% of Crawler requirements)
1025 Crawler Primes (11.9% of Crawler requirements)
2475 Crawler Snipers (28.7% of Crawler requirements)

Clearly they’ve made a mistake.

Yes totally agree, its about the only commendation I have still stuck on lvl 2, everything else is either completed, on Master, or the one before it.

I agree, I’m trying to earn both the covenant destroyer and forerunner destroyer, and I’m getting close on the tougher enemies, mainly because I play spartan ops on legendary, but crawler snipers and such rarely show up. It’s making it really annoying to earn.

I’m actually done with all the Sangheili commendations, but Crawler Snips rank lowest on my kills.

Is there any way to speed up Crawler sniper kills? Any level recommedations?
