Given that humanity was “de-evolved” by the Forerunners and started anew, could it also be the case that after the disappearance of the Forerunners, a civilization descended from them emerged. This civlization would be on a par with humanity, given the timescale.
We may see Forerunner descendants in Halo 4 or later installments.
Another thing is that the Forerunners may have wanted the other races to think they are gone for good, thus reducing the danger to them posed by the Flood. I everyone thinks the Forerunners are gone, so too will the Flood.
There’s a whole lot of possibilities to consider, too. The scenario which could emerge from Halo 4 could lead to a complex set of factions.
UNSC
Sanghelli
Jiralhanae
Covenant Loyalists
Flood (could also be earlier Flood types)
Human Insurrectionists
Forerunners
Forerunner Descendants
How will humanity react to the discovery of what the Forerunners did to the human race? Some humans might even side with the Timeless One in rage at the Forerunners.
The Halo Encylopedia says some of the Forerunner did survive the activation of the Rings. I would bet we see them in Halo 4 but I don’t think they would be at our level. It is confirmed to be a Forerunner planet and considering all the technology is still active I would say they’re still Tier 1.
I just wonder where Humanity is now though. Frankie said Humans will demonstrate what they can do when they’re not backed into a corner and have the opportunity to access Forerunner tech more easily. Is the UNSC by this time on it’s way up from Tier 3 to Tier 2? This would put them on par with the Covenant.

I personally have my doubts about the human race making the leap from Tier 3 to Tier 2 considering with the Covenant War over they may end up seeing a resurgence in the Insurrectionists taking advantage of the weakened state of the UNSC in an attempt to finally get the autonomy that they want for the colonies. I also dont see the human race being able to do anything else besides have the ability to travel through slipspace as accurately, if not more so, than the Covenant were able to.

What you say is true, but there is one slight problem in those thoughts, in some parts of the Human/Covenant War story, the Human insurrectionists have sided with the UNSC when it came to fighting the Covenant, there is a chance that insurrectionist threat, that was a major threat before the Covenant, nothing more than a small terrorist cell, and the once anti UNSC factions join the UNSC to help defend the Human race from farther Covenant/flood threat.
Also, Tsunayoshi, I wouldn’t say the Human race would fall so short, I bet more than just more accurate SlipSpace drive/nav systems will be researched, I mean, the UNSC did just come from a war with a group of alien races, with a very large amount of more advance tech, you never know, we might see ships being out fitted with plasma weapons, shields, and grav lifts. Hell, lets not forget some of the tech for ground troops, cloaking, personal shields for none spartans.

That still leaves getting to the point where they have tech that allows them to manipulate energy at a man portable level, something that the UNSC to our current knowledge was nowhere near achieving if they were even studying and working towards that goal in the first place, and the ability to communicate instantanously or near-instantanously on an interstellar level, again something that the UNSC was nowhere near achieving to our current knowledge.
Cortana showed some pretty nice skills with navigation and weapons manipulation when she got ahold of a covenant ship in ‘first strike.’ You also can’t forget that in the timeline, Halsey is alive at least untill the end of Ghosts of Onyx (meaning she survived Reach somehow). If she still has the ‘latchkey discovery’ then the human race would be set to take a giant leap forward.
Given that the current architecture and weapons style is so integral to the flavor of the story, I would hope they don’t do a complete refitting of the UNSC fleet. Perhaps site manufacturing capacity as the reason that only a handful of UNSC ships posess the new tech.
Remember that Cortana instantly said ‘wow is this tech underused’ in first strike because the covenant are emmulative, not innovative.
Developing your own tech is pretty tough. Latching onto someone else’s is relatively easy. Given that Cortana immediately pimped her ride, I would expect the pinnacle human tech to leap past the Covvies but the average to be well lower.

And Cortana did all of that with Covenant technology, which was more than capable of such precise slipspace jumps to begin with. That doesnt really mean much. Also the latchkey discovery that Dr. Lazlo found had more to do with the coordinates of the Halo array and a bit more I believe and not so much anything that could be of use in giving humanity the leap in tech needed for the advancement to Tier 2.

I dont see humans making a leap like that without having Cortana available, especially if she still has most of that knowledge stored in her own memory banks and nothing had been copied or downloaded to another database to be studied and acted on.

I believe in Fall of Reach it is heavily implied that the Halo coordinates were on the rock the covenant were beaming a translation of before Keyes knocked their ship out of orbit. And yeah, the covenant ship had tech beyond what the human ships have. But it isn’t ridiculous to think that given a captured covenant ship another ai would be able to understand the tech much as Cortana did. The only reason at that point you wouldn’t be able to utilize your knowledge is if the tech uses physics that are fundamentally beyond your current grasp. It is hard to teach yourself calculus. Not that hard when someone else shows you how to do it.
Remember when we are talking about cortana we are talking about an AI this dosnt mean cortana is the only one who could make these advances it means that the humans just need another ai to do the job or a couple. They could get the job done safely. plus give them at least 50 years and see that the equipments are set up for the making of new ships etc. Also remember humans are likely to get the help of the engineers from the elite as it is mainly peace time and medically they are far superior. All the alien races are right now lost as they needed one another to survive.
Humans on the other hand were surviving quite well so they will have an easier time. All they need is some scientist to research these covenant equipment. Also the vast number of forerunner artifacts including the ark are now easy to study. They can now study the function and with the help of the AI’s advance quite fast.
Only thing humans need to advance are the equipment which will take 50 years for mass production of new ships and equipment and huge new research abilities.
There are enough forerunner artifact to study and they dont need cortana for this. Remember the messaging device with one piece on reach and one piece on earth that could send messages in very short time. mainly a slipspace device but at a smaller scale. If they study that and understand how it works they will make huge achievements.

Cortana had most of the Forerunner and Covenant tech data though. Unless it was downloaded and/or copied from her databanks, humanity has no access to it and you cant study what you dont have in the first place.
Also the human race having the aid of the Huragok would be mostly useless as well.
Sure humanity has other artifacts to study, but that doesnt replace all the knowledge that is held by Cortana in the first place.
