I’m terrible at this game, granted, but every time I play someone who will tank 5,6,or 7 shots and I check their location and it’s France, Mexico, or Canada… Anyone else have the problem of immortal foreigners?

Yes. Anytime I play people from the UK…lets just say its not pretty.

I played a couple of guys from Mexico the other day and they were just eating my shots like nothing. I feel your pain. The good thing is that it doesn’t happen often to me.
I know what you are talking about, once i played a clan of german kids,they were terminators, i had to shoot them about 8-10 times to kill them.
This is why we need a filter to search for local games or games with good oonnection, but lets face it 343 doesnt give a -Yoink-

Regardless of WHO the foreigners are, it doesn’t change the fact that they are not good for the game. It makes it frustrating and fives someone a huge advantage. No ones playing the victim, just stating the obvious.

How did a topic about terrible lag when playing against another country turn into being self centered? I don’t care about your accent, who you are, what language you speak in or nationality. I just care about the terrible lag when paired up with a foreign host is all. Lrn2read.

When will 343i realize we need the ability to filter matchmaking results by ‘Americans Only,’ ‘Unamericans Only’ or ‘Anyone’?

You do know Americans refer to everyone on the American continent right? this includes Canada, USA, Mexico, Center and South America.
The correct term should be North Americans and even then we coudl argue Canada would be included there.
Now back on topic.
The lag for people on the USA playing against foreign host is also the same lag that people outside of the US experience when playing against foreign host, this is not the players fault, blame 343I for removing a feature that was included in every Halo game since H2 and that is the search criteria for good connection, local players etc.
These “foreigners” you speak of have it much worse than we in the US do. How do you think they feel when they get matched up with us more than we match up with them. A regional filter based off of distance would be nice. I’m not a fan of playing on east coast host either. Hopefully when they go to dedicated servers that they have servers in each country. If not then all hope is lost.

Um, I’m American and when I say Americans I only refer to citizens of the United States of America… So, you’re right, I was unaware that American meant anyone residing in the continents of North America and South America, thanks for informing me. Just for future reference, what term should I be using to specify citizens of the Unites States of America?
And in all seriousness, I don’t see why giving the players the option to filter by region (or not, should they so choose) is neither doable nor desired by the majority of players and should be added. I also don’t think it should be a back end filter that’s either on or off. I, personally, don’t usually mind playing with “foreign” players as long as I can still move around without 1/2 second+ control delays.

The universe is infinite so technically everyone and everything is at the center of it.

Further, 343i is a USA-based company that makes games primarily played by USA-based people. These forums are hosted on USA-based servers. We are speaking on the topic of latency in connections to other geographic locations. So, yes, in this case, Germans are foreign.

I’ve never heard anyone refer to Canadians, Mexicans, Brazilians, or Chileans as Americans. The term is almost globally recognized as referring to people living in the USA.

Words evolve in meaning. American has evolved to mean from the USA. Perhaps it was due to “American arrogance,” but still, I’ve yet to hear any foreigners complain. Even the Americans Wikipedia article refers to people from the USA as Americans. You’re only defending this ideology because you assume others will take offense.
I don’t think they’ll do that for this game. If they would, they’d have done it already. Not only that, but the population is so low and the skill gaps so wide, it would take a lot longer to find “good connections.” Even in Halo 3, I never used any search modifiers because it made matchmaking take twice as long.

Technically yes, but United States does not have a clear method of specifying origin in the english language. Do you expect me to say United Statesian? Or should I say American instead, because the last word in United States of America is America?
I can understand how other countries in North and South America could be offended, but keep in mind that we have no other way of specifying origin in that tense.
Moving on, If we had a REGIONAL FILTER, this wouldn’t be a problem. I can’t possibly imagine why 343i would want to remove this, but stranger things have happened.
I have never played a game that has even a fraction of the lag that Halo 4 suffers from. I get a black screen at least three times a match, and my NAT is open, and I live in an area on the planet that has fast connection. Its just really annoying, and I don’t understand why they wouldn’t even pay attention to it.
Odds are, they forgot to add it; they were focusing mainly on the graphics of the game, I believe.
Unfortunetely, what can you do? Just stop playing, or deal with it. There isn’t a way of fixing all of these problems 343 created, so maybe its time to accept it.
I’m sure we could all use a regional filter, but it isn’t there.
