Forbes explains Halo 4 issues

Just curios to see what the defenders of everything 343 have to say about these glaring issues with the way Halo multiplayer is/going. Especially now that sites outside of the ones that Mirso$oft pays to write great reviews speak out.

Wow I never would have expected Forbes to do a piece on Halo 4 o.O

Except turning those off is possible. Only two thing are instant respawns and sprint.

With all due respect to the writer, this isn’t all that different from an ordinary player expressing opinions on their own blog. As far as I can tell, it’s a piece from Forbes, but not a piece by Forbes.

Forbes also said that Xbox is a complete failure and that they should sell to Sony…

People, stop letting MLG, Forbes, Population counts inform you if you like this game or not.

Like it and play, or don’t like it and play something else.

> Like it and play, or don’t like it and play something else.

Saying that to a rabid base of disappointed Halo fans is a dangerous game to play.

Good game not epic not great just good, still live to play it

That article basically explains why i dislike the game. Randomness is key to games yes, but in past games everyone had the same possibility of it happening to them. Everyone was the same in every way except skill at the game. Now it is pure luck nothing more nothing less.

This is the best explanation I have seen put into written words to date. The writer has expressed exactly how every competitive player feels to a large extent, and I doubt anyone who truly understand the game would disagree with what he has had published here today.

Halo lacks equilibrium, and the core game play has been torn apart by so much randomness, and imbalance. If the arena shooter Halo 2, and Halo 3 were evolving into were here today you would still see Halo on the MLG circuit, and a very less antagonizing community.

“All of this works fine for normal players, and Halo 4 multiplayer is a decent amount of fun. But at the highest levels of competition, you cannot have that much randomness in a game.”

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and if you personally dont like Halo 4 and its changes or if youre a competetive player and you agree with what was mentioned in the article the OP posted, thats fine. BUT THERE IS NO DEFINITIVE TRUTH TO “HALO IS BROKEN, 343 RAPED HALO, THIS GAME SUCKS, ETC”. Those kind of headings on threads need to stop.

Some people aren’t competitive gamers, or care about what used to be (halo 2, 3). Some people just want to have fun and play some Halo; there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. And if you really dislike Halo 4, ok well then move on or wait and see if an update makes enough of a change. But please stop trying to impose your anger/disappointment on other people.

> Some people aren’t competitive gamers, or care about what used to be (halo 2, 3). Some people just want to have fun and play some Halo; there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I am a competitive gamer, I care about what Halo used to be, what it has become, and like you I just wanted to turn on my xbox and play some “HALO”.

But the arena shooter I once knew is gone, and that is what upsets some if us the most. I have no problem with anyone who wants to just play Halo, and have some with out sweating, but I hope you can understand that those of us who are deeply invested into the game are truly dissapointed on how the core of Halo is very much non-existant.

To summarize the main theme of the article:

EDIT:

The article points out that C.O.D. Is still part of MLG because the core mechanics have remained the same even after the different enhancements with each version.

Halo’s core mechanics have been compromised by randomness.

So, it is not considered MLG material.

That basically sums up the theme of the article.

Guess he also forgot that cod sells more every year and is mulitplat which means more gamers will compete and watch compared a Xbox exclusive game

Oh I can completely understand, and of course you’re all entitled to your opinion. I just mean to all the people who start threads that are titled, HALO IS DEAD, OMFG 343 SUCKS etc. They pop up all the damn time, and most of the time its just the same complaints. Your response was respectful and came with an understanding of where I’m coming from, so I imagine my frustration would not be with a member of the waypoint forums like you.

COD has been like that for a long time, and it still never replaced Halo so…

First of all its an opinionated piece by someone that doesn’t actually work for Forbes. Secondly the writer says Halo is less of a competitive title because of the new stuff like Loadouts (which can be disabled) and PODs (which can be disabled) and that might be part of the reason MLG dropped Halo. Cool I can understand that or at least I could if MLG didn’t turn around and pick up CoD. This article is crap.

How did forbes not check this article?

> Randomness just doesn’t work at the highest level of skill in a game, any game.

Dota 2? TF2? League of Legends? Starcaft 2? Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3? Magic the Gathering? All of these more popular competitive games have chances of randomness. I feel like the lead editors didn’t do a good job of checking their facts at all… That’s just bad journalism.

Edit: Oh the article wasn’t written by the Forbes staff, Whew.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself. Great article. Will probably post my thoughts on this in a new thread.

Unfortunately some do, not all but some…

Every game has a margin for randomness, and are not perfect. The difference between a lot of those games versus Halo is that they do not have to change very much at all in game to make the experience balanced, and competitive. I know for a fact Lol doesn’t change anything, they just play the game.

With Halo the more you change for MLG, the more you end up alienating the core demographic. Which in turn upsets the community, and causes a lot of issues, and when so much needs to be changed in order to create the proper atmosphere it becomes a waste of time when you have so many games that do not need tuning.
