Forbes - "A 'Halo Infinite' Delay May Be Better"

Please listen 343/Microsoft. Delay the game and release it later in a better state.

I don’t understand why everyone is so worried. The demo build was confirmed to be pretty old. And there’s still like 4 months until launch, which is a pretty long amount of time in software development.

I feel like everyone is super over reacting about the graphics, and not appreciating the pretty damn solid gamer play that was shown off.

Yes with all the news attention 343 and Microsoft might actually listen. If the game is struggling let it be finished the right way not screwed at launch.

Maybe they can launch the beta at launch but not the actual game to get some feedback from actual series x players. Then once they’ve improved the game to Halo standards with all the features it’ll be ready.

Four months is hardly enough time to work out a game plan to distribute it.

There is no need to delay it unless there are some game-breaking bugs. I refer you to this.

Work out a game plan to distribute what? Have you ever worked on an IT project? 4 months it’s a ton of time lol. And like I said, the bulls was old, so the difference between what we’re getting at launch and what we saw is more around the 8-12 months of dev time on the graphics…

Confirmed? Where’s the official 343i’s quote?

Careful now, you’ll be shunned for bringing logic & reason in here lol.

I know enough that each and every thing added to the project has to be thoroughly tested. Also, it can’t just be implemented, it has to be designed and worked through several departments. Especially if it has to do with visuals.

I understand the whole delay debate and I agree it should be released only when it’s ready (but I mean it, not like the other times we’ve heard it where it’s meaningless). However, are they allowed to delay the game if they want to? it’s supposed to be a launch title for the Series X and I’m not quite sure if Microsoft would allow it. I don’t know how much influence 343 has in this decision.

Look at Gears 5 Demo vs retail. Only 2 months made a massive difference visually. Halo fans are just stupid

There are some valid points in that article. Putting this much pressure on 343i to make the launch title for XSX with their track record isn’t fair to a degree.
And while 343i seems confident about what they’re doing I can’t help thinking that people at both MS and 343i are in a bit of panic now. I mean the reaction from the community is so bad that even press is writing about it instead of the game itself. That’s not a good thing.

So while I do think the community is overreacting to a degree (the whole this looks like PS1/Xbox Era Halo or H3 looked better makes me think they’re either too young to actually have played on those consoles or just are blinded by nostalgia) I also do feel 343i needs to make a statement now.

They just need to come out and say: “Hey guys this was an old build and this is what it looks like now” or, if that isn’t the case, Microsoft should say: “We’ve heard your complaints. We don’t want extra crunch time, Infinite will come out early 2021”. Because their radio silence now is just giving room for too much negativity in this community.

From scratch maybe. No issue is going to have to be solved by a complete restart of any item, and most of the stuff I read is likely just missing animations or placeholder textures. Like the brute face thing. I guarantee there are just animations that weren’t implemented into that build yet that will totally fix it

Microsoft is relying on Infinite to help sell its new console, so I can’t see it happening. I’m more concerned about them launching a de-featured game to meet deadline and spending a good part of next year adding stuff that should have been there at launch.

Personally, if the release of Halo Infinite is delayed, I wish it was because of a decision made unilaterally by 343. Not because of social pressure or decision-making from above. A decision made under personal reflection will always be better than a decision made under pressure and without being clear on a course to follow.

I fully support the game, what was shown the other day excited me. But I admit that a delay of the game surely helps a lot to give us a better final product.

I think they at least need to get a Beta/Flighting out. If that turns out to be a disaster, then delay. I understand the pandemic has probably thrown all of the plans for anything big pre-launch out of whack, but after MCC and 343 talking about how useful betas/flighting has been for them, I find it hard to believe that they’d sit out on having one for probably the biggest game they’ve ever made.

But this makes no sense to me “launch title” it’s not really a launch title if it’s on the current Xbox as well though is it?

And PC. People who want the Series X will get it regardless of Infinite being on it day 1 considering they could get Infinite anywhere else besides Playstation. They could even buy it on Xbox One and play it for a year or two before upgrading to Series X version through Smart Delivery.

Isn’t Gears built on the Unreal Engine? They probably just made some optimizations and flipped a few switches.

Because it was still shown, and no one had the foresight to go “Hm, maybe showing off this iteration of our game four months before launch is a bad idea and would negatively affect the Series X brand.” Part of it as well is that this is supposed to be five years of effort, and it looks… Well, it looks like that. Cyberpunk has been shown off consistently and it looks far better than Infinite does. Also, the “four months for polish” thing is trite. DOOM Eternal had a gameplay trailer, the Phobos one, that was filmed two years before Eternal released and it blows Infinite out of the water on a graphical and effect perspective.

The gameplay was probably the biggest turn off for me and is one of the major reasons I won’t be purchasing Infinite come release. They’re still stuck in making incredibly generic looking games. If I wanted to play Titanfall 2, I’d go play Titanfall 2.
