For what is the covenant fighting for?

On bungie era they were there for killing humanity and do a lot more things. But now for what?
I hate that bungie just killed the covenant from the game.

They are fighting for power again.

They just hate arby… thats the actual reason XD

But who is in charge? They are ver y weak

Yeah there’s almost no point in the covonent existing anymore, in the bungie days they had an actual point of being in the world and were a major part of the story but now there pretty much just filler.

Up until the death of Jul 'Mdama, a large portion of them followed him as the self-proclaimed “Didact’s Hand”. They may be without The Prophets, but they’re still obviously following some kind of religious dogma. Maybe more is to come in Halo 6?

Post-Halo 5, I think the Swords of Sanghelios (Arbiter’s faction) is the leading body of the Covenant races now that the Storm Covenant is out of the picture. There are quite a few other sub-factions(?) as well, but not nearly as big. The Covenant splintered quite spectacularly after the Human-Covenant War.

Some followed the Arbiter, others still blindly follow the religion despite the clear and present lies depicted in Halo 2. Others just want to commit genocide on humanity for their “crimes”.

It’ll be pretty interesting to see where the pieces fall now that Cortana is enforcing a pretty severe form of martial law on the entire Milky Way.

Well, Jul M’Dama was the leader of the leader, but Fireteam Osiris assassinates him in the Halo 5 campaign.

Anyway, the Storm Faction was originally fighting for their religion in H4 (As they were unaware the war was over and their religion crumpled), but I think in H5 all the fighting is fueled by the Civil War on Sanghelios (they could still be fighting for their religion, but I doubt it since the San 'Shyuum are out of the equation). The reason Jul 'Mdama’s remnant is fighting humans is because the humans are in league with the Swords of Sanghelios.

Because they hate humans. It’s pretty simple. Those who were neutral stayed with the arbiter. And those who wanted war stayed with Jul.

i thought the covenant were some crazy religious cult or something

They use to be before 2012 now there just there for the point of being there.

Please refer to my previous post.

I think OP brings up a good point. This is a pretty important part of the story that seems to have been forgotten by the writers of 343. As far as I can tell, the only reason we are fighting the covenant is because we have always fought them. I’m not suggesting that we take them out of the story, but they definitely need to have some motivation to make them interesting again.

Well, Jul 'Mdama created his Covenant faction because he wanted to get Forerunner technology, revenge on humanity for supposedly killing his wife, Raia 'Mdama, and gain power after the breaking of the Covenant. The Sangheili of his faction are either in it for religious reasons or power. The Kig-Yar are there because money. Grunts because they really don’t have much else to do. Hunters joined because who knows why. Most Sangheili-led remnants exist only to try to grab for power and resources.

Storm covenant? What is it?

If I am in charge of the history I will do this. On halo 6 something happened and the humans killed some innocent covenant. Then arbiter and everyone is pissed off and it starts a war. Arbiter kills agent locke. Then cortana tries to do something but she just kills humans. Máster chief kills cortana.

Bungie “killed” the covenant because they were done with the franchise. The way the 343 is taking it, I agree there isn’t much of a point to them really existing anymore. Who knows, maybe the next game will just be prometheans and AIs (and the flood?)

Yeah during the campaign whenever covies showed up it always felt like they were there just to change up the scenery. Let’s breath life back into the covenant. Maybe a new rogue elite or brute steps forward to gather the factions and begin a quest to wipe out humanity, because you know, humanity is basically a bunch of a holes.

Btw I’m joining the covy side when this happens.

Jul 'Mdama’s Covenant remnant isn’t actually named the Storm Covenant. It’s just ‘The Covenant’ or 'Jul ‘Mdama’s faction/remnant/splinter’.

'Mdama’s covenant remnant fights alongside the didact against humanity.
