Instead of the 1-50 system that had it’s own issues and is now dated, would it not be better to use something like the “Battle Performance Rating” that is already incorporated into our Service Records?
Meaning, have an XP based ranking system but when in a lobby, matchmaking, etc… next to that rank also show the players BPR. That way we can visibly see the difference between someone who doesn’t play often but is very talented in multiplayer versus someone who plays campaign all day long but isn’t the best multiplayer teammate. I don’t know about you guys, but when in matchmaking I often try to quickly look at the stats of the high ranked players to see if they are truly a good MP player or just have boosted things like commendations/campaign/firefight.
Maybe BPR could be evolved into a deeper, more meaningful system than it is today for this very purpose.
You can get a high BPR and still lose so many games. When you play with players as good as you and u get a lower BPR while destroying everygame because you all do evenly well?
Ranks is about showing you wins as well as you basic level ok skill/ability. Its Prestigious in a way as much as you don’t think so. Having a 50 meant something. It was widely discussed about how much it meant but it did mean something. Like in h2 when i got 35 in team slayer I was over the moon. In h3 when I got my 50 in snipers/mlg/TS and the other ones, i felt satisfied. It meant something to me as well as reaching a certain plateau throughout the halo community.

Well like I said, EVOLVE BPR into something more meaningful/deeper. I’m not saying it should continue exactly as it is today.
While many, like yourself it seems, are nostalgic about the 1-50 it really wasn’t that great of a system and had many issues itself.

Lets EVOLVE 1-50 into something more meaningful/deeper, make it a great system and fix the many issues it had.

This.
I see nothing wrong with improving past concepts that had major flaws. Why does everyone think rank is the end of the world when it is only part of the experience?

Agreed, I’ve been saying that about BRP since it was introduced.
BPR isn’t perfect, it could use some evolution, but there’s no reason to not have it on the in game service record, and that would be more useful than some garbage 1-50 system.
One of the major flaws I’m guessing is people getting cheated. People cheating just proves (In most cases) that it matters to them so much to get a 50 that they’d be willing to cheat to get it. I’m not saying its ok to do but the writing is on the wall here.
When you got rid of ranks, you got rid of cheating but you also got rid of so many players that played because of the way you get ranked.
I played every Halo, but I only got the online experience with Halo 3 which saddens me because apparently Halo 2 was amazing and the ranking system was perfect. Bring that back I say! It is far too easy for people to get 50s in Halo 3, and BPR…well, ive played hardly any Reach. Just check my service record, and my BPR is 82. If I press more than the ten or so games ive played it would easily be 100. Its a very flawed way to rate skill.

> It needs to be win-based system with at least FFA, 2v2 and 4v4 options, so that even players without a full team can be ranked.
the main problem arena had with individual skill system was that it created extremely selfish play, people will deliberatly kill teammates after they’ve been shot by the other team so that they wouldn’t do as good as them, not work with there team for map control and just abandone there teammates, a lot of camping and such.
it was just a real mess, changing it to win/lose actually improved it a lot it was just a shame that the settings didn’t really work well for skilled play and people weren’t aware that it had been changed, i’ve met quite a few ex top arena players who had stopped playing because of it being based off of individual skill and didn’t know it had been changed to win/lose, after i told them it was win/lose they wen’t back into arena …
